assistance and forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil
of ourselves and our bad deeds, whoever Allah guides there is none who
can misguide him and whoever is lead astray there is none that can
guide him, and I bear witness there is no God other than Allah, He has
no partners, and I bear witness that Muhummed is his Servant and Final
Messenger(peace be upon him);
Thereafter,
This is in response to your article on legality of celebration of
birthday of our beloved Prophet(SAW) in GK. Before I discuss anything
more on the issue I would like to make following comments in general:
1.I write this keeping in view the following relationship amongst the believers:
"The believers are brothers"
Al- Quran (49:10).
2. I was delighted to see in your write up that you hold the Quran and
authentic Sunnah as the source of final guidance in the matters of
dispute. In fact this is expected of believers as Allah says,
"If you differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His
Messenger if you believe in Allah and the Last day:that is best and
most suitable for final determination"
Al-Quran(4:59).
I wrote these few introductory words keeping in view the condition
prevalent in the muslim world. Any voice of dissent is looked upon
with suspicion and thus rejected.
Now let us turn systematically towards the evidence that you have
compiled from the Sacred Texts in favor of Meelaad. You have quoted
following two verses from Sura Maryam. The first quoted you say talks
about Allah celebrating the Meelaad of Yahya(A.S.) and second one
about Isa(A.S.) celebrating his own.
..................................................
The peace is on Him the day when he was born and the day when he will
die and the day when he will be raised alive."
(Sura Al-Maryam, Verse 15)
"And the same peace on me the day I was born and the day I will die
and the day I would be raised alive."
(Sura Al Maryam, Verse 33)
..................................................
In the begining of the Sura in question Allah says that
Zakarriyah(A.S.) asked for a son and Allah gives it to him in
spite of his old age.Allah goes on to say further:
12.(Allah said),"O Yahya,take the Scripture with determination."And We
gave him judgement(while yet) a boy.
13.And affection from us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah
14.And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant.
15.And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and
the day he is raised alive.
16.And mention,(O Muhummed),in the Book(the story of)Mary,when she
withdrew from her family to a place toward the east
In the subsequent verses Allah narrates the event of birth of Jesus
and then says
that he spoke to people while in cradle:
30.(Jesus)said,"Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the
Scripture and made me a Prophet.
31. And He has made me blessed whereever I am and has enjoined upon me
prayer and Zakah as long as I remain alive
32. And made me dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant.
33. And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and
the day I am raised alive.
Allah goes on to mention the Jesus in next verses and the overpraise
of him by christians who wrongly took him as Allah's son. Then Allah
summarises the lesson for us in verse 39:
39. And warn them,(O Muhummed) of the Day of Regret, when the matter
will be concluded, and(yet)they are in heedlessness, and they do not
believe.
From above it is crystal clear that Allah revealed to his Prophet(SAW)
aspects related of birth of two of his former Prophets. Of Yahya(A.
S.) who was born to old aged parents mother being barren in addition
to that. And of Isa(A.S.) who was born to his mother without a father
and spoke to people in the cradle. In the verses 15 and 33 it is
mentioned that the birth, death and the resurrection of these two is
blessed by Allah. This is of course the case with all of the Prophets.
Further we know it from knowledge of Quran that Isa(A.S.) is yet to
come a second time and then die. There is not a slightest indication
from these verses that they refer to birthday celebrations of these
Prophets. How have you arrived at this tafseer I may question? Is there
any other verse in the Quran on which you have based your opinion?Or a
Prophets authentic tradition? Or that of Sahabah who say that this
refers to Meelaad of these Prophets. If the words
"Peace be upon me on the day I am born"
can be taken to mean birthday celebration.....then by the extension of
your analogy doesn't the phrase
"on the day I die" be taken to mean a licence to celebrate-God
forbid-the death of these Prophets. Can the verses not be extended to
mean celebrating their resurrection-which would be ridiculous.
After that you have quoted following verse :
..................................................
"Then remember the bounties of Allah and wander not in the earth
spreading mischief."
(Sura Araf, Verse 74)
..................................................
Let us now look at the verse 73 and 74 of Sura Araf
