League of Nations

The League of Nations was a peace organization founded on 10 January 1920

as a result of the Paris Peace Conference that ended the First World War.

This is a political cartoon about the League of Nations. Written on the snake is
"International Strife" and the rabbit has "League of Nations". This cartoon is
implying that as soon as international wars start to rise the League of Nations
will be done. As you can see snakes eat a rabbit which means the international
conflict will eat the League of Nations and remove the league from the world.

In this cartoon the snake represents the International wars or conflicts which
were the people that the League were meant to govern or make decisions for
but the rabbit which is in this picture represents the League of Nations
represents the weaker one. This shows how the League was actually
powerless against the International conflict or wars.
The 20th century was shaped by the worlds great powers. The first half of the
century was the age of World Wars and the start of the Cold War. It was
dominated by the rivalries of those powers. The second half of the century saw
the replacement, largely through the agency of those wars, of the European
state system by a world system with many centers of both power and discord.
The field of international relations emerged at the beginning of the 20th
century largely in the West and in particular in the United States as that
country grew in power and influence. In the late 20th century the study of
international relations was increasingly influenced by constructivism. The
World War 1s immediate cause was the assassination of Archduke Franz
Ferdinand at Sarajevo, who was the heir of the Austro-Hungary Empire, there
were many other reasons for the war like Germany bombed the US ship,
France wanted revenge for the loss of AlsaceLorraine and so on . The World
War 1 ended with the loss of the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary,
the Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria and their territories) and the huge win of the
Allied Powers (Serbia, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium and
the United States). After the World War 1 ended, there was a peace conference
which made the treaties for the defeated countries like the treaty of Versailles
which dealt with Germany and there were 4 other treaties which deal with the
other defeated countries. On 1920 the League of Nations finally came into the
picture. The League consisted all the Allied powers except USA and Germany
was not allowed to be a part of the league until and unless it showed that it
was a peaceful country. At the start of the league it made huge successes but
it ended with failures. The League of Nations failed because it WAS DUMB.

Weak- The league had no army and Sanctions did not work.

America- The strong nation in the world never joined the league.

Structure- The League never organized anything and always had a muddle.
The members never agreed and so it took ages for little decisions to pass out.

Depression- The world-wide Depression made countries try to get more land
and power. The League never maintained World Peace.

Unsuccessful- The League failed many times as a result people stopped

trusting it.

Members- Italy and Japan betrayed the league and France and Britain did
nothing for the league.

Big Bullies- In the 1930s, powerful countries like Germany, Italy and Japan
attacked weaker countries. They were too strong for the League to stop them.
This led to instability in the league and it failed. This was also one reason of
the start World War 2 and some other reason of the World War 2 were the
Italian fascism in the 1920s, Japanese militarism and invasions of China in the
1930s, and especially the political takeover in 1933 of Germany by Hitler and
his Nazi Party and its aggressive foreign policy. After the World War 2 there
was a Cold War. The Cold War was a state of political and military tension after
World War II between powers in the Western Bloc (the United States, its NATO
allies and others) and powers in the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and its
satellite states).
