Task 1: Brainstorm on social issues

Task 2: Research on other action videos

Task 3: Research on own video

Task 4: contact details and angle for own production

Task 1:
(this should have been done in the idea process you now need to write it down for
example you looked into an issue and didnt like it, or your realized it was too
difficult these ideas need to be noted now)

Your brainstorms should cover:

The issue
The effect the issue has on community
How easy it would be to cover the social issue
What has been done to cover this issue before
Rough idea on who you can interview

Idea 1:
Effect of gangs in Wycombe

Violent attacks, arson, collateral damage, fear in the area.

Relatively difficult as it would be hard to talk to gang members and get insight on the
matter without being in danger.

Not a lot we would be touching on a relatively new topic.

Gang members, familys effected, the mayor,

Idea 2:
Pensioners through Shaw Trust

Their pension, treated like Rubbish by government, no quality of living, provide for
their children.

As we would be doing it through the charity it would be quite easy to cover as we

would have loads of contacts available.

The charity has been working on campaigns to help the elderly from October 2006

People in the charity, pensioners

Idea 3:
Equality in Wycombe (More Equal)

All member in our society, victims and offenders

It would be challenging but possible as we will be able to show its effect and evoke
change.

The issue is widely covered and there has been a few campaigns in Wycombe
including one in 2003. But we will be taking a slightly different approach.
Members of the public, the Mayor, victims, and other campaigners

Task 2:
Compare 2 social action video similar to yours
(look at LO2 Brief on website for guidance on what should be covered)

Social Action Video 1

Interviews with members of public

Professionals in the field
Evokes emotion
Experiments
Presenters- White
Cutaways
B role
Narration
Analogy

Both of these videos used presenters, which can be a useful asset to the production
as it put a face to the campaign. However, I do not wish to add a face to our
campaign as it will take away from the meaning we wish to convey. Because they
both had white presenters, it would change the way people interpret the message.

Cutaways and B role are vital as they make the video more interesting and add to
the narration. We will defiantly include this in our social action.

An emotional aspect is something I wish to include, as it is that emotion that will make
a change in the community.

Analogies are a clever way of explaining the issue especially for such a sensitive
subject and will defiantly be used in our production as to have a level of intelligence
but also to help explain the situation for others to understand. In the second video,
you can see the effect as we are forced to fall in the presenters view point as we are
looking at the picture from a different angle without knowing. However, we have to
be careful as can be misinterpreted.

Using professionals in the particular field is a good way of delivering the statistics and
facts on the matter, as they know what they are talking about and are seen by the
views as to know what they are talking about. I do plan to contact profanations
and interview them for our production.

Experiments within the video are an interesting approach and you can see in the first
video how innovates discussion and helps to prove their point. A social experiment is
This video is a full animation which I find to be a very simplistic and interesting way to
make the video more engaging. It helps to explain the the narrative visually as well.
This is something I wish to include in my social action as I believe it will help to prove
our point and understanding of the issue.

The Video uses a continuous colour theme to their video so as we associate it with
their campaign I thing this is cleaver Idea and would would like to use a similar
concept inner social action video.

The video is unlike the others on the matter as it is more dynamic with the use of
animation, whilst the others stay stagnate just having one presenter bombard you
with information making it monotonous and un-engaging, So I will be using
animations.

Task 3:
Your research should focus on:

Background on the Social issue itself:

Race is a vital social issue because people use racial differences as the foundation
for their discrimination. A majority of todays racism can be directly line to the times of
colonialism which began in the 1400s. When Europeans started colonizing Africa and
the Americas, the European settlers adopted the idea that they were superior to the
other races they encountered and it was their job to civilize the savages. This false
ideal became known as the white mans burden, and was used to justify the
Europeans taking land and enslaving people. In this way, naturally-occurring racial
differences became the foundation for systems of exploitation and discrimination.
Racism is the systematic practice of denying people access to rights, representation,
or resources based on racial differences. Institutionalized racism is a thorough system
of discrimination that involves social institutions and affects almost every aspect of
society. However its important to remember that racism is neither natural nor
inevitable. Through history, people of different racial groups have interacted and co-
existed peacefully. For example, during the middle ages, Europeans looked up to the
people of Africa and China, whose civilization and culture were considered to be
more advanced. These ideas changed significantly during colonial times.
In high Wycombe there has been many issues like these stand out ones:
According to the 2001 census the total population of Wycombe is 162,105 and out of
this total 12.1% of the population is black and a minority ethnic origin. The larges
being Pakistani and Muslim at 6% followed by black and Caribbean at 1.9%.
In the case of African Caribbean population the segregation is not marked visibly
although they suffer from acute social economic and racial disadvantage.
Wycombe has the larges muslim population in any district in England or Wales. This
community is the most deprived in the district and the range of social and economic
indicators, this community is also the most isolated in terms of the de facto, spacial
segregation from the main stream community especially concentrated in some of
the most deprived wards of the district. At an even more alarming rate African
Caribbean residents are seriously deprived, this creates a similar situation to northern
town such as Burnley, Bradford and Olden which were the scene of riots in 2001.
Making it essential to combat economic and social disadvantage tensions, by
working to insure equal access to resources and services, and also conflict by a
programme of inter-ethnic activities.

Is there already a social action group to try and prevent the issue? Yes / No

If there is: Who is involved with the group? What effects has the group had on the
community? How has it helped certain individuals?Doesit already have an action
video to help its cause? (up load these if there are)

Founded Feb. 12. 1909, the NAACP is the oldest, largest and most widely recognized
grassroots-based civil rights organization. Its more than half-million members and
supporters throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for
civil rights in their communities, campaigning for equal opportunity and conducting
voter mobilization. The NAACPs 2016 Civic Engagement Plans theme, fighting for
democracy, is the overarching message that we will convey to voters in the targeted
states that indeed, Our Votes Matter!

Are there any famous people involved in trying to prevent the situation?
"

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kapernick plunged himself into controversy by
absolutely refusing to stand for the playing of the national anthem in protest of what
he deems are wrongdoings against African Americans and minorities in America.

"
Jesse Williams received the Humanitarian Award at the 2016 BET Awards on Sunday
and gave an impassioned speech about racial inequality, police brutality.
Now, this award, this is not for me. This is for the real organizers all over the country.
The activists, the civil rights attorneys, the struggling parents, the families, the
teachers, the students that are realizing that a system built to divide and impoverish
and destroy us cannot stand if we do. All right? It's kind of basic mathematics. The
more we learn about who we are and how we got here, the more we will mobilize.
Is how it started.
Is there government backing to prevent the situation? Should there be? What could
they do?
There is the Equality Framework of Local Government. They follow, The Equality Act
2010 challenges organizations to know how age, disability, gender reassignment,
marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion/belief, sex,
and sexual orientation describe the experiences of local communities, both
individually and collectively. Thinking about the relationship between these
protected characteristics' explains the difficulties and opportunities arising from the
diversity of local area.

How does the issue effect the community / nation / world?

An account from the Bucks free press.

She said: After 27 years of living here never have I been disgusted until today. While
walking home after picking up my daughter from nursery, I and a couple [of] other
women were racially attacked.

[She] started randomly shouting abuse at the way we were dressed, calling us a
f****** p*** and to go back to our country.

On a national level, things such as being less likely to being employed because of
your ethnic background, and being less likely to receive a mortgage from the bank
plagues the country.

In the world, it is likely you could be perceived as more threatening or less educated
than other ethnic groups, because of the one you belong in.

Look at statistics on the social issue

If you let police stop and search anyone because they think they look suspicious, who
do you think they're going to target? Blacks and Latinos! Since New York City
implemented stop and frisk policies in 2002, over 53% of all those searched were
black and around 30% were Latino. Only around 10% were white. And no, that's not
representative of the city's population: only 25.1% of New Yorkers are black and 27.5%
are Latino. 44.6% are white.

What can be done to prevent the issue from happening?

Everyone has stereotypes and biases about people from other races. Think about
what stereotypes about a person or group may have, and ways you may be
discriminating. You must understand your feelings before you can address them.
Educate yourself. Read as much as you can about race relations, white privilege,
and ways to reduce racism. Read books, listen to music, and watch movies about
other cultures as well. Learn about the history of the culture and current happenings.
Listen to other people talk about their experiences with racism.

Task 4
Contact details and angle
Informative, educational or change of attitude?
Discuss why and how you will achieve this.

Racial inequality is a concept that has been so brushed over as of late, because a lot
of people believe that it no longer exists. And being from the United Kingdom a lot of
people believe, that America, or some eastern European countries are really racists
now a days. Though the issue is that Britain is covertly racist, or maybe even
subconsciously. Thats why rather than changing peoples idea on the subject we
aim to educate the viewer on the subject, because we believe this is one of the
greatest steps towards equality.

We will achieve this by first informing the viewer on how the idea of race began, what
racism actually is and how it is not just shouting derogatory terms at a racial group.
Interviewing the public to understand the general consensus on the topic. And
interviewing local government.

What ethical issues will you have to overcome or be careful documenting?

Some European groups might feel as if they are being targeted for things that
happened in the past, but we cannot move forward unless we not just know but
understand what happened in the past and why it happened. Also no matter what
we are told by the media about advancements in racial equality we have made,
that fact still exists that racism is still very much alive.

Whilst creating the documentary we must find a way to keep it unbiased, and avoid
plastering our opinion on the issue, though it important that the viewer also
understands our views on the issue. Its also crucial that we gain permission to film
people for the interviews for legal privacy laws sake.

List of social action groups you could interview. Can you follow a volunteer or
member of the project?
The citizen advice bureau will be interviewed, to gain insight on how people are
discriminated at work, and the statistics of the people racially discriminated in the
work place. A member of staff can be followed and can show us the steps they are
making to help solve this aspect of racial inequality.
The Mayor will be interviewed, in order to gain insight on how he views the current
situation of racial equality in the community, why he believes that it is still prevalent in
the area if he believes it is still there, and what steps he is trying to combat the issue, in
order to make the town in which he governs a more pleasant
Research on the subject: Research around the subject? Information that you need
to know BEFORE you interview people

In order to me armed correctly for this mission, we will have to research the
concept of race, around what time it was conceived, and why it was used.

How race has impacted the wellbeing of people historically on a community level,
any key moments which standout of racial injustice, statistics on the population
percentage of each race which populate the area, and if there has been as prior
effort to bring the issue to the fore front.

What shots / cut a ways / footage will you need to film in order for the social action
video to have impact?

We will need stock footage of the area, work places, cafes, and parks. To give the
audience a look of how things used to be, be it good or bad.
If there are any accounts of racial injustice, they should be an reenactment of
them in or der to vividly pant the picture in the viewers mind. So that they
completely understand the situation.
