CELLULAR CONCRETE

It is a lightweight cement-based material containing many

gas bubbles evenly distributed in the volume
It is produced by blending and maturing of a mixture of
cement, filler, water, agent generating cells.
By the method of generating the air or gas, there exist
foam concrete and gas concrete.
CELLULAR FIBRO
CONCRETE
Type of cellular concrete produced
from a prefabricated dry mix
Allows construction to be fulfilled
quickly with high quality and low costs
Construction can be carried out
even when there is no electricity at the
site

ASTM C 150
STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR
PORTLAND CEMENT
Portland cement of each of the eight types must have the following chemical
compositions: aluminum oxide, ferric oxide, magnesium oxide, sulfur trioxide,
tricalcium silicate, dicalcium silicate, tricalcium aluminate, and tetracalcium
aluminofernite.
ASTM C 618 - 08A
STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR COAL FLY
ASH AND RAW OR CALCINED NATURAL
POZZOLAN FOR USE IN CONCRETE

Covers coal fly ash and raw or calcined natural pozzolan for use in concrete
where cementitious or pozzolanic action, or both, is desired, or where other
properties normally attributed to fly ash or pozzolans may be desired, or
where both objectives are to be achieved.

CLASSIFICATION:

Class N Raw or calcined natural pozzolans.

Class F Fly ash normally produced from burning anthracite or bituminous
coal. It has pozzolanic properties.
Class C Fly ash normally produced from lignite or subbituminous coal. In
addition to having pozzolanic properties, also has some cementitious
properties.
ASTM C 494
STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR
CHEMICAL ADMIXTURES FOR CONCRETE
The materials used in the concrete mixtures shall include Type I or Type II
cement, pozzolan, fine and coarse aggregates, and air-entraining admixture.

Samples of freshly mixed concrete from at least three separate batches for
each condition of concrete shall be tested in accordance with:
Slump
Air content
Time of setting
Water content

Test specimens of the hardened concrete shall be prepared in accordance to:

Compressive strength
Fexural strength
Resistance to freezing and thawing
Length change
WHAT MAKES CELLULAR CONCRETE
UNIQUE?

Low-density
Excellent pumping qualities
Light but strong
Permeable or non-permeable
Self-leveling
Insulating
INGREDIENTS USED IN CELLULAR
CONCRETE

Cement
Lime
Water
Finely ground sand
Fly ash
Expansion Agent
TYPES OF CELLULAR
CONCRETE
AUTOCLAVED CELLULAR CONCRETE

Mainly made by Ytong corporation

Uses Aluminum Powder as an Expansion Agent
After batching the Concrete is baked in large oven
CELLULAR FIBRO CONCRETE

Product in the form of CFC dry mixes

"Fibro" indicates that the cellular concrete is reinforced
with synthetic fibres
During the mixing of water and CFC dry mix, a chemical
reaction occurs, generating many Hydrogen bubbles in
concrete.
The concrete expands 2 to 4 times its original volume
during the procuring period
FOAMED CONCRETE

Produced by the German company Neopor

Uses foam as the expansion agent
The foam is based on protein-hydrolisation
Can be made as ready made blocks or on site
APPLICATIONS
ROOFS

Determine to a great extent the life of buildings

Lightweight
Sound Insulating Properties
Also Good Thermal Properties
Suitable material for flat level roofs
For sloping roofs pre-cast slabs or panels is most
effective
SLABS

Lightweight, thermos and sound insulating properties

General application is similar to roofs
LOW LEVEL BUILDINGS

Application of cellular concrete in low level buildings is

common in many countries
Applied mostly in blocks, arches, overhead covering slabs
Market leader: German company YTONG
ROADS

forms a harder foundation, if compared with gravel, which

is an obvious advantage;
the weight of the structure is greatly reduced,
very effective on weak and wet soils, and in the same time the
thickness (depth) of the road foundation is considerably
reduced
ROADS

cellular concrete possesses liquid consistency and the roughness of the soil
surface is not of great importance;
the depth of the ditch is immensely reduced
cellular concrete protects the foundation from softening in rainy weather
decreasing of destruction, backfilling and compaction of the bulk material can
lead to foundation destruction with all consequences.
ROADS
BRIDGES

Successfully used in the construction of bridges.

light weight
it is simply irreplaceable in construction of abutments
to bridges, strengthening of approaches and
construction of foundations under the bridge bearings,
in bridge girder, enforcement of embankments and
backfills
TUNNELS

Used as backfill for the void between the soil and the tube.
material matures it increases in volume
this allows to fill all voids and cavities
at the same time the material serves as a perfect heat
insulator, noise absorber and is water-resistant.
PIPELINES, COMMUNICATIONS

Protects pipelines and communications very effectively

from external forces (impacts, dynamic influence, etc.),
serves as a perfect thermo-insulation
Allows reducing the excavation depth
economic benefit.
PIPELINES, COMMUNICATIONS

Easy to cut with any type of tool, including hacksaw

Easy to pour in the places of repair
SEA AND RIVER REPORTS

CFC is used in the construction of ports and moorings for

backfills in cutoff walls.
light weight
hard
resistant to deformation
water-resistant
OILS AND GAS FIELDS

Successfully applied in construction sites on oil and gas

fields.
Used in pipe-line insulation
In construction of foundations
For backfills in abandoned wells, voids and cavities, etc.
FLOATING STRUCTURES

Floating structures are interesting and challenging to build.

Here modern materials are widely used. The CFC material
offers seven properties making it ideal for building floating
houses and other floating structures:
FLOATING STRUCTURES

durable (practically lasts forever);

non-corrosive, does not rot or disintegrate in water;
lightweight;
inflammable;
thermal and sound insulator;
ability to expand and take the shape of the design;
naturefriendly.
OTHER APPLICATIONS

As it is hardly possible to list all spheres of application of

CFC here we will briefly mention where their customers
have used Cellular Fibro Concrete:
OTHER APPLICATIONS
in animal breeding - construction of heated floors;
in construction of football fields as foundations;
in construction of golf fields;
in shooting training fields and galleries in the army as shock-absorbing
walls (ricochet-free);
in ship building - filling of voids between walls;
in fire-proofing of safes in banks;
in oil industry - conservation of wells;
in construction of ponds, artificial lakes, reservoirs and dams;
in socle coating and stone revetment in houses and cottages;
in fire-proofing of metal structures;
in construction and embankment of dams and rivers to prevent
flooding,
