What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
product?
Software Used
Our group relied immensely on social media to communicate with each other
between lessons. We used media such as Snapchat, Instagram and Whatsapp. All
of these mediums helped us communicate effectively. Most of the software we
used whilst constructing our product, we had used before, which made it easier
for us to complete our planning and research.
We used Microsoft Word to complete some of our planning and research tasks.
This is the main processor we used, as most of our work was a document. We
also used Word, as it was easily available on all the devices we used. After typing
our work onto word, we used other software to upload it onto our blog. One of
them was Scribd. This is an online website which allows you to upload
documents which can be embedded onto a website, so they are easy to scroll
through. We used this to embed most of our work that was typed onto Word.
Microsoft PowerPoint was also used to create slideshows in a simple way. It was
easy to use, as we had done so previously. We used software like Prezi and
Slideshare to upload onto our blog, as we wanted to show that we could use a
variation of software. Prezi allowed for smoother transitions and there were more
options in how you presented each slide. Although it was slightly complicated at
first, it was easy to pick up and was used in pieces such as the pitch.
Final Cut X was used by me (the editor). I had little previous experience with it,
as I only used it in the preliminary task, which I edited. It was tricky to use at
first, buy once I got the hang of it it became easier. I believe it produced a better
outcome than other editing programmes I used previously such as iMovie. Whilst
using Final Cut X, I learnt many new editing skills, such as the use of transitions
and score music.
We primarily used Blogger as a group, as our blog was created on that software.
Blogger took a while for us to understand how to use. However once we grasped
the concept of it, it was easy to use. Blogger allowed us to show our work
efficiently and allow for creative freedom.
We also used YouTube to upload all of our videos, including our preliminary task,
actual production as well as some of my evaluation tasks. It was easy to embed
our videos onto Blogger from YouTube.

Equipment Used
We used a shoulder rig for our forest scenes. We found it
quite difficult to utilise as it was confusing where we had to
put the camera. When we learnt how to use it, we
discovered it useful. It was used whilst we were shooting a
chase scene. It was effective as we could hold the shoulder
rig from the top handle and easily run with it. The shoulder

was also used for POV shots, as there were two handles either side making it
easy to hold.

The tripod was one of the key pieces of equipment we used when creating our
production. We used a tripod to keep our camera steady when filming. The tripod
allowed us to easily track the characters. We found it
easy to use as we could adjust the height of it. We learnt
that the tripod had to be on a flat surface, and all three
legs have to be at an equal length. We achieved a
number of shots through movements with the tripod.
This allowed our production to be smoother.
We also used a cannon 700D camera to film. This camera
was very efficient as it keeps moving subjects in focus
when shooting video. It has many features and has 18
megapixel lens. This camera uses quite modern
technology, and we found it easy to use, as the functions
of it are simple. We encountered a few issues when
filming. For example the camera was sometimes not in
focus, so we had to re-film. Also, we forgot to turn on the
microphone a few times, which meant we had no side
and had to re-film.
A rode microphone was used. We used an external
microphone instead of simply using the camera, as we
wanted to have clearer sound. The issues we faced with
the microphone was, we forgot to turn it on a few times resulting in us re-filming.
Artificial lighting was also used. This was in the shed scene. We used artificial
lighting, as the shed was a dark location. Although we wanted our film to have
low-key lighting, we still used artificial lighting for the audience to be able to see
the mise-en-scene of Emily.
Other forms of media I used was mu USB stick. However as I was the editor, I had
to store our footage somewhere and a UBS didnt have enough space. Therefore I
acquired a hard drive, on which I stored my work efficiently. We used our phones
for things such as recce pictures as it wasnt essential to use a camera. Also the
cameras on IPhones are very clear.
