Most English adverbs are formed by adding the 1) FORM ADVERBS FROM THESE ADJECTIVES:
suffix -ly to an adjective: 1 healthy 8 silly 15 terrible

nervous nervously bad badly

beautiful beautifully safe safely
4 suitable 11 usual 18 sarcastic
Exceptions: whole wholly, full fully 5 public 12 nice 19 high
Note that : 6 angry 13 natural 20 fashionable
1. Final y after a consonant changes to i: 7 gentle 14 immediate 21 good
easy easily, gay gaily (butcoycoyly) 2) MATCH EACH VERB WITH A SUITABLE
2. The ending -le disappears if it follows a ADVERB. USE EACH ADVERB ONLY ONCE:
consonant: terrible terribly; think .......................... quietly
sleep .......................... bitterly
probable probably; gentle gently
speak English .............. soundly
3. Adjectives ending in -ic add -ally : close the door .............. carefully
scientific scientifically; economic cry ........................ fluently
economically (exception : public publicly) whisper .................. dangerously

4. With adjectives ending in -ly we use the equivalent

hardly (= scarcely): I know hardly anything about it.
