A Ryan Jesse Holyk act of kindness scholarship


for West Valley School District Students

Mission
The mission of The Happy Llama Scholarship is to recognize and assist West Valley
Students who make spreading kindness a priority.

Funding
The funding for this scholarship will come from monies raised thru Ryans Ramble.
Ryans Ramble is a non-profit organization that raises money thru community
events to help promote helmet safety and kindness thru community service.

Requirements
An eligible student will be one who has demonstrated a consistent dedication to
bettering our community thru acts of selflessness and kindness. Students will need
to submit recommendation letters from 2 or more community programs with which
they have worked for a minimum of 6 consecutive months.
Although this is not an academic scholarship, eligible student must achieve a
minimum grade point average of 2.0 or better.
Scholarship may be used toward the higher education of the students choosing,
including, but not limited to trade schools, colleges, universities, and housing and/or
travel expenses for students looking to join our nations military.

Award Amount
Varies by year, depending on the fund-raising success of Ryans Ramble. Amount
and number of awards are to be announced by July 1 st of the year preceding award.
For instance, we will announce the award amount and number of awards for the
school year ending 2018 by July 1st 2017. However, there will be no fewer than (1)
one $500 award per year.

Proof of Use Toward Education


In order to ensure that the award is used for education or housing, the award will be
paid directly to either the school chosen or arranged personally with the student for
travel or housing costs associated with committing to our country.

Application Process
1. Complete 6 consecutive months of volunteer work with each of any 2
community organization programs of your choice. So, 2 separate programs 6
months per program. They may run consecutively.
2. Submit two or more recommendation letters from a person of authority within
each organization. So, a minimum of 1 letter per program a total of 2
letters.
3. Complete and submit the attached application. Since this is not an academic
based scholarship, the essay portion of the application may be completed as
either a written essay, or a media based presentation. For example: You may
do a power point presentation, you may give a speech with an included
slideshow, you may make a video, you may create your own presentation in
any way you feel comfortable relaying the information. It does not have to be
written, it does not have to be a speech. You may email your presentation.
Any ideas will be welcome, but they must tell us how you have shown
kindness in your community thru volunteering and how it has made a
difference in your life.
4. Complete an interview with the Board of Directors of Ryans Ramble. We will
be looking for:
a. Someone with a fun personality.
b. Someone who demonstrates excitement for life.
c. Someone who shows a passion for wanting to make the world a better
place thru community involvement.

All required items must be turned in no later than May 1 of your senior year.
