Experiment No. 1

## Name of the Experiment: Discrete-Time Signals in Time-domain

OBJECTIVE:
To gain experience in creating, sampling and analyzing discrete time signals within MATLAB.

PRELAB WORK:
- Carefully Read Through Tins Lab Description, So That You Know What Is Required.
- Read Throught The theory lecture notes. (and bring them with you if necessary).
- Familiarize your self wiih the MATLAB commands that may he required for this lab - see the list at the
end of this lab description for some hints.

LAB WORK:

1. Create Unit impulse signals (n) , (n 15) and (n 9) for n 25 : 25. In each case plot impulse
signal Vs. n using the MATLAB function stem ( ) .
2. The general from of a continuous- time sinusoid is Xa (t) = A sin (2Ft ).

(i) Create a MATLAB Script that point- samples Xa (t) at a sampling frequency Fs = 100 Hz, for t= - 0 to 2 seconds.
Using the MATLAB Funtion stem(), plot the discrete-time sequence x(n) versus sample number n obtained for each
set of parameters given in Table 1.

(ii) Visually determine the period of each of the discrete - time signals and compare with the calculated digital
frequency (f) and periodicity (N), if any, of x(n) for each set of parameters given in Table 1.Compare the discrete time
signals wave form with those of the continuous time signals.

REPORT:

Submit a report on your lab work 1-5 along with the corresponding MATLAB script file for each work Clearly label
X-axis and y-axis and in each figure. Answer all the question in Lab Work.

## Useful MATLAB Commands:

Note that this is not an exhaustive list ! You are not required to incorporate all of these in your scripts.
