3rd Week - journal entry 2

*Having fun with Science Manipulative.

In the third week of my teaching practice in Well Spring school, I decided to go to school and
make a tour. I observe that the classes include multiple things from mathematics, science, and
literacy. I noticed that every subject have its tools, resources but sometimes some tools could be
used for two items. For instance, students can use scales for math measurement and for science to
get the answers of measuring items.

Besides science tools, there are several and different tools that I noticed it is appropriate for all
grade levels. I can see that science manipulative is provided for all levels as I know that the
WellSpring School is a new school also. So, that is a good point to provide for students materials to
study. The purpose of using manipulatives in science to get the concept and to use it while doing the
experiment.

Regards how to use scientific materials, the elementary school teachers do not have a director
or a coordinator for science to teach them how to use the science tools. Instead of this, elementary
teachers are intelligent and figure out this issue by searching on the Internet independently how to
use manipulative in science. I liked that my mentor has self-independent in teaching students, she
does not like to be absent or to give her TA teacher assistant her role in the class unless if she
would help her.

In terms of science laboratories, I can see that there are no labs for students which make me
feel how does students will work in a science experiment. I was worried about students
performance, but when I discussed with my mentor about this matter. She informed me those
students recently using the classroom as a science lab which the teacher provides everything for
them because next year they are going to be in the new building. The school is new as I said, and it
is opened for two years which makes me discover the school tools and classrooms.

In the end, the most important thing is that all science materials and instruments are provided
for students. I feel comfortable that students have the materials to recognize the objective or the
outcomes of science standards.
