Dear Parents,
Mrs. Hyatt and I would like to thank you
for taking the time to read to your child
everyday. Please dont forget to write
down the title of the books on the sheet
attached inside your childs folder. March
is non -fiction month. Don't forget to
read at least 20 books and write them on
your reading log.
Theme
Its springtime! There are so many things
to do in spring. Using our five senses, we
will write about the things we see, smell,
feel, taste, and hear. In our creative art
and writing, we will make puffy spring
picture using shaving cream, glue and food
colors. We will have fun!
Language Arts
In the class we build on what students
know and can do, and help them to become
independent writers. Please take time to
encourage and help your in their attempt
to write at home and reinforce what we
do in class.
Make the important connection
between letters and sounds by
putting letters together to form
words. Encourage your child to say
the word slowly, then put all the
letter of the sounds that he/she
can hear.
Use sight words in writing. Review
sight words each day.
Read back what he/she wrote.
Over the next few days we will focus
on consonant blends ( sp, gr, st, br,
etc.) We will read books and write
sentences with consonant blends.
Math
In our math lessons, we will review
addition and subtraction of numbers to
20. We will continue to identify shapes
(2D and 3D shapes) and list their
characteristics. We will learn telling time
to the hour and minute (digital and
analog), and learn about money. We will
be busy!
Reminders
The HFW or sight word practice list that
we sent home for the 3rd nine weeks is to
show you what we are using in learning to
read and write. Please go over them with
your child so he/she does not have to
guess their spelling whenever we write in
class. Reading and writing independently
will help them tremendously in first grade.
Looking ahead March 30, Thursday-
IES Musical Night begins at 6:00
(Chapman High School).
April 3-April 7- Spring Holiday
Lunch balance-This is a friendly reminder
to pay your lunch balance for the year if
you haven't yet.
