According to Newman, one of most important factor on having a good learning and intellectual

development is having a social an assistance or support from others. According to him, that if a

child is treated with social support, he will have difficulty on independence and may request

teachers or classmates on helping him on his academic performance. (Newman, 2000)

The study above explains the negative side of social support on children. To relate it with the

researchers study, Newmans study is similar with the Independent Variable of researchers

study which is the social support of teachers. However, the aim was not similar on the

researchers study which is to determine if social support is effective on procedural memory and

declarative memory.

A current study was conducted by Baker where in he used 1310 respondent who were elementary

students who has significant child characteristics. He wanted to know the effect of student-

teacher relationship on the result on behavioural and learning performances. According to his

study, that children with low learning process have poorer outcomes if they have support on their

teachers. (Baker, 2006)

The study above is similar with the researchers aim where in they also wanted to know

the effect of social support to childrens learning. However, the dependent variable is not the

same because the researchers study focused on the skills of children specifically, dancing and

picture recognition accuracy.

A study was conducted to determine the effect of social support of teachers to childrens

risk of failure on school. 910 children were used as the respondents and the problems were
behavioural, attention, academic, and social problems. At risk respondents were placed on a

classroom with a strong emotional support, and also a group of at risk students were also placed

on a room without support. The result was that students with strong emotional support had a

higher achievement on their behavioural, attention, academic and social problems than those who

does not have emotional support. (Pianta, 2005)

The study of Pianta was similar with the independent variable of the said study which is

Social support. However the respondents were not the same as well as the dependent variable,

because researchers aim is to determine the effect of social support on the skills of grade one

children specifically dancing and picture memory accuracy.

A study was conducted about the role of physiological activity and social support on

childrens memory. Four to six year olds were the respondents and a methos of autonomic

responses and salivary cortisol were used as the measurement. After 2 weeks delay, Cortisol

activity has a low memory accuracy than autonomic reactivity on having a support. However,

children with nonsupportive manner, they have a low result on autonomic reactivity.

(Boyce,2010)

The study above shows the similarity on researchers study when it comes to memory. However,

the methos was not the same because researchers study used saving method and picture memory

accuracy as the measurement for the long term memory. Moreover, the independent variable of

the study above which is social support is same as the independent variable of the researcher.
