APPRECIATION METHOD

This method is designed to instruct the class to understand, appreciate


and enjoy something. Appreciation is a combination of understanding and
enjoyment. A learner who understands and finds easy solving arithmetic
problems, may be actually enjoying it, and therefore, he appreciates it .This
method focuses on developing desirable values. It should help learners to
evaluate values and guide them make proper choices. Values that are
experienced in individual conduct are characterized by goodness and
uprightness. These desirable values inevitably make the learner's existence
more meaningful and worth living. The primary objective of the teacher in
appreciation lesson is to plan interesting lessons that will stimulate and
induce learners to appreciate what is beautiful and worthwhile.

Terms to be used in the discussion must be defined first

Hour of Appreciation
Aesthetic - enjoyment comes from something beautiful. These
may be rhythm and grace in dance, harmony of colours in a
painting, proportion in a sculpture and blending of sound in a
musical composition. Subject matter that provides and
emphasizes good tastes, high ideals, and love of the beautiful
should be developed.
Intellectual enjoyment comes from recognition and
admiration the form, technique or style that was used. These
may be how the writer creatively wrote his literary piece, the
form and structure of a poem or story, the technique of a
pianist, the way the painter tilts his brush. This is more of the
cognitive level of appreciation.
Interpretative - enjoyment comes from making and
understanding meanings through symbolisms. These may be
the symbolism present from the story, the values that a
character represents, the hidden meaning of a song. This is
more focused on the affective level since it aims to develop
values provided with the different of affective materials.
