Evaluating Peer
Work
Activity 1
Use the mark scheme below and work in pairs to grade the 4 exemplar pieces of
work. You must try and place the work into the correct level. Wherever possible
you should use a best fit model, this means that you take an overall view rather
than harshly penalising for one fault. Use the space provided to give specific
examples and write a summary comment at the bottom of the page. You are
examining the ENTIRE MAGAZINE
NON STOP POP
Summary Comment
I have marked this magazine cover, content page and double page spread at a low
level 3. Although the student has used a variety of fonts and text sizes as well as
showing an understanding of convention magazine layouts, this magazine doesnt use
a large variety of shots as they are all medium close ups and doesnt have the right
mise en scene selected for the photos as over items can be seen in the back of the
photo. None of the columns on the content or double page spread are the same width.
Im my option this magazine would get 37 marks out of 60 putting it at level 3.

appropriate use of ICT used to make this magazine. This magazine has a range of shots including
a close up, medium and long shot. However, the photos used the Flawd magazine is only basic

This magazine cover, content, double page spread I have marked at a high level 3 as
stack magazine appears to be a real magazine. This student uses a range of different
style photos and shots including g close ups and medium shots. The student shows a
good understanding of a conventional magazine layout which shows in their own
magazine. The style of this magazine carries on across all three of the pages. The
student shows an appropriate use of ict skills to produce the magazine and awareness
of need for variety in fonts and text sizes. I would have given this magazine overall 38
marks out of 60 meaning it would be in level 3.

Summary Comment
Dubzone magazines cover, content page and double page spread I have marked at a level
two. The magazine uses basic ICT skills to create the magazine. The student appears to
have some understanding of conventional magazine layouts and design yet the magazine
doesnt like realist compared to other magazine that are in shops. The columns and column
gutters on the magazines content page arent the same size and dont line up. Although
the magazine has some close up shots and some medium shots the photo are of a basic
skill set. The student uses appropriate language and register on the cover of Dubzone
magazine. Overall for this magazine I would give 33 marks which would put it at level 2,
basic.
Task 2
Now using the skills youve acquired in task 1, evaluate your own work and
then two pieces of work from classmates. Use the space provided to give
specific examples and write a summary comment at the bottom of the page.
Summary Comment
I have marked my own magazines cover, content page and double page spread in level 3.
Although I have understanding of conventional magazines that shows in this magazine, the style of
my magazine isnt conventional as my magazine is different to others already in the shops. My
photos from my magazine have well selected lighting and mise en scene to fit in with the style of
my magazine and my magazine includes a variety of shots. I have used ICT appropriately
throughout my magazine. I would mark my magazine 36 marks out of 60 meaning it would be in
level3.

Summary Comment
I have marked this magazine cover, content and double page spread at a high level three as I
feel it is proficient work. Although the magazine has unconventional elements like the large
boarded on the magazines cover, the student still shows a clear understanding of a
conventional magazines layout and design. The student frames the shots well and uses a
variety of shots including close up, medium close up and medium shot. However, the columns
on the content page of the magazine arent the same size and dont line up. Overall I would
give this magazine 37 marks out of 60 meaning it would sit at level 3.

Summary Comment
This students magazine cover, content page and double page spread shows a
proficient use of ICT to make the magazine. The student uses a variety of different
shots in the magazine including a shot, medium and close up shot, all the photos are
framed differently. However, the column gutters on the content page arent the same
size and dont line up. The pink background of the double page spread doesnt match
the style of the rest of the pages making the magazine seem fragmented. Even
through the magazine seems to be unconventional the student clearly shows
understanding of conventional magazine. I overall give this magazine
