ASATO MAA MANTRA

Veda Invocation, Sanskrit mantra from the Upanishads

ASATO MAA SADGAMAYA

TAMASO MAA JYOTIR GAMAYA

MRITYOR MAA AMRITAM GAMAYA

Oh, Lord please lead me from the unreal to the real.

ad me from darkness to light (i.e. from ignorance to knowledge).

Lead me from death to immortality.

May there be peace, peace and perfect peace.

This is perhaps one of the most profound Vedic mantras ever. What this
chant is asking for is the Highest of the Highest. It is a mantra which is
implying that the seeker understands finally that there is no peace or
happiness in anything material. That anything material will forever be
transient and will forever bring suffering. Understanding this, the seeker
chants this mantra and asks only for Truth, Truth and Truth.

Above in the meanings, the implications are as follows. In asking for

deliverance from "Asat", the seeker is asking for deliverance from Maya,
duality or the dream world. The seeker is saying, I feel this reality is not
the Truth, please awaken me to the Absolute Truth (Sat). The seeker is
aiming for God Realization.

Similarly, in the second line, the seeker is asking to be delivered

form darkness (Tamaso), meaning ignorance, to light (Jyotir), meaning
awakening. Again, the seeker, understanding that what is most
important in life, is awakening to the Truth, asks for nothing material,
but asks for Enlightenment and True Knowledge instead. !

In the third line, the seeker is not asking for eternal life or
immortality. The seeker is asking for Self Realization. The seeker is
asking to be awakened to his Infinite, Timeless, Un-born and Eternal nature.
The seeker is requesting to be awakened to his True Nature, to who he truly
is, and that awakening to the eternal Self is the freedom from time and
death which he is seeking.
LOKAH SAMASTAH SUKHINO BHAVANTU

Sanskrit mantra meaning May all beings in all worlds be free and happy.

It reminds us that our relationships with all beings and things should be
mutually beneficial if we ourselves desire happiness and liberation from
suffering. No true or lasting happiness can come from causing
unhappiness to others. No true or lasting freedom can come from depriving
others of their freedom. If we say we want every being to be happy and free,
then we have to question everything that we do-how we live, how we eat,
what we buy, how we speak, and even how we think.

LOKAHA SAMASTAHA

SUKINO BAVANTHU

OM SHANTI, SHANTI, SHANTI...

Este mantra se canta ao terminar cada orao do dia.

Significa Paz para todos os seres viventes.

GAYATRI MANTRA

Among all the mantras, the Gayatri mantra is called the essence of all
mantras. All spiritual powers and potencies are contained hidden within
it. The Gayatri is meditation on spiritual light. It is practiced by Hindus
and Buddhists alike. This mantra is for the purpose of enlightening the
intellect.

By unwrapping the power of this mantra, one can sit in meditation and
commune with celestial beings, sages, saints, masters, Maha Sidhas and
Rinpoches in the higher realms. Because of its ability to bring into the
subtle body keys to tuning ones consciousness

to the higher realms, the Gayatri is called a Master Mantra.

Pictures of Gayatri show her with five heads, Lakshmi (the primordial
power of manifestation), Saraswati (the power of knowledge and divinely
empowered speech), Durga (the power of protection), Radha (the power
of ecstatic bliss), and Bhu Devi (the power of the Earth).

We meditate on the most sublime light of divinity, that which is the source
of eternal Bliss beyond measure. May this light illumine our awareness and
dispel all darkness.
MAHAMRITYUNJAYA MANTRA

Om. We worship The Three-Eyed Lord Shiva who is fragrant and who
increasingly nourishes the devotees. Worshipping him may we be liberated
from death for the sake of immortality just as the ripe cucumber easily
separates itself from the binding stalk.

"O Omniscient Divinity, we adore you. O Lord full of excellent fragrance, you
are the nourished, the sustainer of all life. As the cucumber is freed from the
stem, thus liberate us from death and grant us the nectar of Immortality."

TRYAMBAKKAM refers to the Three eyes of Lord Shiva. Trya means

Three and Ambakam means eyes. These three eyes or sources of
enlightenment are the Trimurti or three primary deities, namely Brahma,
Vishnu and Shiva and the three AMBA (also meaning Mother or Shakti are
Saraswati, Lakshmi and Gouri. Thus in this word, we are referring to God as
Omniscient (Brahma), Omnipresent (Vishnu) and Omnipotent (Shiva). This is
the wisdom of Brihaspati and is referred to as Sri Duttatreya having three
heads of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

YAJAMAHE means, We sing Thy praise".

SUGANDHIM refers to His fragrance (of knowledge, presence and strength

i.e. three aspects) as being the best and always spreading around.
Fragrance refers to the joy that we get on knowing, seeing or feeling His
virtuous deeds.

PUSHTIVARDHANAM: Pooshan refers to Him as the sustainer of this world

and in this manner, He is the Father (Pater) of all. Pooshan is also the inner
impeller of all knowledge and is thus Savitur or the Sun and also symbolizes
Brahma the Omniscient Creator. In this manner He is also the Father
(Genitor) of all.

URVAARUKIMIVA: URVA means VISHAL or big and powerful or deadly.

ARUKAM means Disease. Thus URVARUKA means deadly and
overpowering diseases. (The CUCUMBER interpretation given in various
places is also correct for the word URVARUKAM, but not apt for this mantra).
The diseases are also of three kinds caused by the influence (in the
negative) of the three Gunas and are ignorance (Avidya etc), falsehood
(Asat etc as even though Vishnu is everywhere, we fail to perceive Him and
are guided by our sight and other senses) and weaknesses (Shadripu etc. a
constraint of this physical body and Shiva is all powerful).

BANDHANAATH means bound down. Thus read with URVAROOKIMIVA, it

means I am bound down by deadly and overpowering diseases.

MRITYOR MUKSHIIYA means to deliver us from death (both premature

death in this Physical world and from the neverending cycle of deaths due to
re-birth) for the sake of Mokshya (Nirvana or final emancipation from re-
birth).
MAAMRITAT means please give me some Amritam (life rejuvinating
nectar). Read with the previous word, it means that we are praying for some
Amrit to get out of the death inflicting diseases as well as the cycle of re-
birth.
MOOLA MANTRA

The Mantra is like calling a name. Just like when you call a person he comes
and makes you feel his presence, the same manner when you chant this
mantra, the supreme energy manifests everywhere around you. As the
Universe is Omnipresent, the supreme energy can manifest anywhere and
any time. It is also very important to know that the invocation with all
humility, respect and with great necessity makes the presence stronger.

OM: The Supreme word is OM. If you are meditating in silence deeply, you
can hear the sound OM within.

The whole creation emerged from the sound OM. It is the primordial sound
or the Universal sound by which the whole universe vibrates.

SAT means, all penetrating existence that is formless, shapeless,

omnipresent, attribute less, and quality less aspect of the Universe. It is the
Un manifest. It is experienced as emptiness of the Universe. We could say it
is the body of the Universe that is static. Every thing that has a form and
that can be sensed, evolved out of this Un manifest. It is so subtle that it is
beyond all perceptions. It can only be seen when it has become gross and
has taken form. We are in the Universe and the Universe is in us. We are the
effect and Universe is the cause and the cause manifests itself as the effect.

CHIT is the Pure Consciousness of the Universe that is infinite, omni-present

manifesting power of the Universe. Out of this is evolved everything that we
call Dynamic energy or force. It can manifest in any form or shape. It is the
consciousness manifesting as motion, as gravitation, as magnetism, etc. It is
also manifesting as the actions of the body, as thought force. It is the
Supreme Spirit.

ANANDA means bliss, love and friendship nature of the Universe. When you
experience either the Supreme Energy in this Creation (SAT) and become
one with the Existence or experience the aspect of Pure Consciousness
(CHIT), you enter into a state of Divine Bliss and eternal happiness
(ANANDA). This is the primordial characteristic of the Universe, which is the
greatest and most profound state of ecstasy that you can ever experience
when you relate with your higher Consciousness.

PARABRAHMA is the Supreme Being in his Absolute aspect; one who is

beyond space and time. It is the essence of the Universe that is with form
and without form. It is the Supreme creator.

PURUSHOTHAMA has got different meanings. Purusha means soul and

Uthama means the supreme; the Supreme spirit. It also means the supreme
energy of force guiding us from the highest world. Purusha also means Man,
and PURUSHOTHAMA is the energy that incarnates as an Avatar to help and
guide Mankind and relate closely to the beloved Creation.
PARAMATMA means the supreme inner energy that is immanent in every
creature and in all beings, living and non-living. It's the indweller or the
Antaryamin who resides formless or in any form desired. It's the force that
can come to you whenever you want and wherever you want to guide and
help you.

SRI BHAGAVATI is the female aspect, which is characterized as the

Supreme Intelligence in action, the Power (The Shakti). It is referred to the
Mother Earth (Divine Mother) aspect of the creation.

SAMETHA means together or in communion with.

SRI BHAGAVTE is the Male aspect of the Creation, which is unchangeable

and permanent.

NAMAHA is salutations or prostrations to the Universe that is OM and also

has the qualities of SAT-CHIT-ANANDA, that is omnipresent, unchangeable
and changeable at the same time, the supreme spirit in a human form and
formless, the indweller that can guide and help in the feminine and
masculine forms with the supreme intelligence. I seek your presence and
guidance all the time.

PRABHU AAP JAGO

The great saint Sacha Baba kulanandji revealed a great, powerful mantra
called Prabhu Aap Jago (Oh God, wake up in me and wake up in all beings).
This special mantra brings down spiritual energies which bring about the
awakening of those who chant it as well as the entire humanity. It is
therefore an altruistic tool made available to all, and which can be used by
all men and women of goodwill who bear the Common Good in their hearts.
And more than ever there is a great need of beings of goodwill in this
particular period of the history of evolution.

Prabhu Aap Jago, Paramatma Jago, Mere Sarva Jago, Saravatra Jago,
Dukhaantak Khel Kaa Ant Karo.

Sukantak Khel Prakash Karo.

pain and suffering Bring in the era of joy and bliss.

PURNAMADAH MANTRA

The Purnamadah Mantra is the opening prayer of the Brihadaranyaka

Upanishad.

That is whole; this is whole; From that whole this whole came; From that
whole, when this whole removed, What remains is whole.

PurNam, the single noun in the verse, is a beautiful Sanskrit word which
means completely filled - a filledness which (in its Vedic scriptural
sense) is wholeness itself, absolute fullness lacking nothing whatsoever.

Adah, which means that, and idam, which means this, are two
pronouns each of which, at the same time, refers to the single noun,
pUrNam: PUrNam adah - completeness is that, PUrNam idam -
completeness is this.

Adah, that, is always used to refer to something remote from the

speaker in time, place or understanding, something which, at the time in
question, is not available for direct knowledge.

Idam, this, refers to something not remote but present, here and now,
immediately available for perception, something directly known or
knowable. Thus it can be said that adah refers to the unknown, the
unknown in the sense of the not-directlyknown due to remoteness, and
idam refers to the immediately perceivable known. In other words,
idam stands for all things capable of being known as objects. So
when the verse says pUrNam idam,"completeness is this", what is being
said is that all that one knows or is able to know is pUrNam.

PurNam, completeness, absolute fullness, must necessarily be

formless. PurNam cannot have a form because it has to include
everything. Any kind of form means some kind of boundary; any kind of
boundary means that something is left out - something is on the other
side of the boundary. Absolute completeness requires formlessness.
GANESHA

When things are not in your favor, or when the minds of the people turn
negative, depressed or discouraged, the attention of Ganesha may be drawn
by this mantra to straighten their ways. The HUM symbolizes "Delay no
more, my Lord, in straightening the paths of the

crooked-minded ones." When we call upon Ganesha, the beloved elephant-

faced God, we

invoke his desire to remove all obstacles, large or small, internal or external,
that may hinder our paths.

KRISHNA

In hinduism the Trinity of Gods are Brahma, Vishnu (all pervading) and Shiva
(creation and dissolution of the universe). Govinda is the name of Shri
Krishna (incarnation of Lord

Vishnu on earth). Literally means the protector of cows. Gopala, Rama and
Narayana are other names of Krishna Hare or Hari means Shining One

SHIVA

Shiva means Auspicious One He is described as the one who is completely

pure, untainted by the world of form and temptations, uttering his name can
bring salvation

from the cycle of reincarnation.

He is one of the three Gods of the Hindu trinity: Brahman, Vishnu and Shiva.

Shiva is responsible for the creation and desolution of the universe.

He is the eternal yogi, blissfully unaffected by maya (illusion).

He destroys our attachments and delusions and brings our liberation.

Shiva is often depicted with a third eye with which he burned Desire (Kma)
to ashes.

OM NAMAH SHIVAYA

Namah means bowing to the divine. Shivaya is the force of the divine
that sweeps away the negative and renew the spirit. I bow to the inner
self or I honor the God inside myself and in all things.
