With the year half way over, the stories are becoming more March 25 April 2
difficult. A second grade fluency level score rubric is written
below to help you see how your child is graded based on a cold Spring Break No school
read. The scores your student received for winter were
calculated using the fluency passage titled Backyard Crocodile
Relatives, recently sent home. In the Spring, the expected
words per minute required to receive an on-level score will
increase. Also, students will be starting to read all Reading
formative and summative assessments independently to
prepare them for 3rd grade expectations. Be sure that your
child is reading at least 20 minutes per day. It's ok for them to
read a passage/story multiple times. This increases their
fluency and reading ability.

Approaching: 0-71 words per minute
On-Level: 72-99 words per minute
Beyond: 100+ words per minute

rectangle into same sized squares and count the total number, to partition circles and rectangles into
