Green is a Business studies teacher who introduced Socrative student response


system to her fourth form (14-15 year olds) in the Hilary term of the academic year
2016-2017.

Leg A

Student Participation in discussions is limited.


During questioning the teacher generally can only solicit the opinion of one or
two students.
When students work individually during class exercises they have to wait until
the teacher gets to them or corrects the exercise to receive feedback.
All students are not comfortable speaking up in class for fear of being wrong
in front their peers.
In class discussions, the teacher does not receive responses from all students
and thus has no idea about all students thinking.
It takes a long time for the teacher to correct all the students assignments.
Accounts class is timetabled in a computer lab which has an adequate number
of laptops for each student.
The school has limited financial resources.

Leg B
Socrative is a free student response system which allows the user to collect
individual responses simultaneously and anonymously.
Socrative can provide facilitates the creation of self-grading quizzes and
provides feedback to quiz takers.

Maximize student participation in discussions.


Collect individual responses from students during discussions.
Provide immediate feedback to all students during exercises.
Create an environment where all students feel comfortable giving responses.
Visualize student understanding.
Make the process of creating and correcting more efficient for the teacher.

b. Ms. Green is a Business studies teacher who introduced Socrative student response

The objectives of the Socrative programme are:
Maximize student participation in discussions.
Provide immediate feedback to students during exercises.
Clear up student misconceptions immediately during exercises
Create an environment where all students feel comfortable giving feedback.
Visualize student understanding
Make the process of creating and correcting more efficient for the teacher.

i. The mission of Harris Secondary School is to provide a secure, structured and


innovative environment which empowers staff and students to maximise their
potential to develop into responsible, creative, caring members of our changing
society.

ii. Due to the objectives of the Socrative programme there is a need for Software with
the following capabilities; can collect data anonymously and simultaneously from
different users, can create quizzes easily and auto grade assessments at no cost.

iii. Students will be taught how to use their web browser to respond to questions in
Socrative. Ms. Green will be taught how to create assessments, questions for
discussions and generate reports using Socrative.

iv. In the formative evaluation stage a check will be made to see if the students are able
to correctly use Socrative to respond to questions and to see if Ms. Green is able to
correctly use Socrative to create exercises, generate reports and self-grade
assignments. If either the teacher or students are not completing their processes
correctly retraining might be necessary.

v. After all adjustments have been made to the programme and it is operating in its
mature state, a check will be made to see if using Socrative has maximized student
participation in discussions, provided immediate feedback to students during
exercises, cleared up student misconceptions immediately during exercises, created an
environment where all students feel comfortable giving feedback, visualized student
understanding and made the process of creating and correcting more efficient for the
teacher.
