How to Lose Weight in 4 Weeks- Diet Chart for Weight Loss

Ratis darling hubby wrote a very thorough article here about fitness. Making us girls acquainted
with the point of view of the opposite sex. We all were totally impressed and agreed to every
word he said. So lets take the same thought a little further.

To stay fit and maintain your shape a regular workout helps a lot. But when it comes to losing
weight and getting back in shape, a regular workout or exercise routine wont suffice. You will
have to take it a step further and take care of your diet in order to lose weight . Even the gym
instructors would tell you so. Exercise and diet are the two sides of a coin. You cant achieve
weight loss with just one of them. A regular exercise routine and a healthy diet is your route to
salvation.

Im following a Indian diet myself by a leading dietician. When I first went to this dietician, he
told me to get some blood tests done. Like thyroid checkup, blood sugar, serum insulin in my
case since I have PCOD. So its just not about losing weight but getting to know the underlying
reason of piling on the kilos. In my case it was increased serum insulin levels.

First things first, If everything with you is fine your weight gain is due to lethargy,
wrong dietary habits and erratic routine. So When u go on a diet make sure that
whatever plan u follow it must be timed right as well. You must wake up latest by
8:00 ( thats for the late risers, even I used to wake up by 10 or 11). This is the most
important thing in your routine because the body has its own clock and you
shouldnt mess with it.

This diet is split in 4 weeks period with the diet changing every week.

Before starting the diet weigh yourself and write it down somewhere. This way you know where
you started and you feel good to see the scales going down.

Some things you need to follow this diet :

1. No salt after 7:30

2. No aerated drinks. Yes that includes even the diet version.

3. Restrict mango and banana

4. Restrict potato and rice.

5. No artificial juices as well.


6. Half an hour of aerobic exercise daily. If u want to join a gym good enough.
But if due to any reason maybe time or money constraint u cant join a gym.
All you need is a comfortable pair of shoes to do some aerobics, a skipping
rope to do at least 500 skips (5 sets of 100 skips and increasing it as you go).
1.5 -2 kgs dumbbells for toning your upper body. Just these basic things and
you are set.

7. 20 mins of breathing exercise . ( Im talking about Baba Ramdevs pranayam)

Week 1

8:00 am (as soon as you wake up) 2 glasses of methi seeds water ( soak 1tsp of methi seeds in
2 glasses of water. Strain out the methi seeds and drink the water. Helps a lot in water retention
and bloating) 5 soaked almonds with the skin. 1 kali mirch u dont have to chew it just swallow it
down.

9:00 am 1 toast (brown bread) with amul lite butter / hung curd dressing/ salad and chutney

11:30 am one fruit of your wish

1:30 pm A small plate of salad before starting the meal. The fibers in the salad fills u up which
in turn prevents false hunger that makes u overeat.1 bran chappati (mix wheat flour and wheat
bran in equal proportions.) with 1 bowl ( normal sized katori ) of dal.

5:00 pm 1cup of milk or tea with 2 biscuits(just marie, no other biscuits)/ 1 small bowl bhuna
channa/ 1bowl popcorn ( not the buttery act 2 ones but air popped popcorns without the butter)

7:30 pm A small plate of salad before starting the meal. 1 bran chappati with 1 k vegetable
( any vegetable not rajmah, channa or kadhi)

8:30 pm one fruit of your wish

When this week ends, weigh yourself again. Im sure u must have lost weight. I lost 1.8kgs in the
first week itself. U lose the max in this week because you lose all the water weight and the
bloating is gone. The further weeks you are surely going to lose weight but it wont be this
much.

Week 2
8:00 am (as soon as you wake up) 2 glasses of tulsi leave water ( soak 5 tulsi leaves in 2
glasses of water. Strain out the leaves and drink the water.) 5 soaked almonds with the skin. 1
kali mirch.

9:00 am 1 toast (brown bread) with amul lite butter / hung curd dressing/ salad and chutney
11:30 am one fruit of your wish

1:30 pm A small plate of salad before starting the meal. 1 sandwich (2 brown breads with
paneer filling, if you are a vegetarian and egg whites, if you are a non vegetarian.)

5:00 pm 1cup of milk or tea with 2 biscuits

7:30 pm A small plate of salad before starting the meal. 1 bran chappati with 1 k vegetable (this
week you can take rajmah, channa or kadhi )

8:30 pm one fruit of your wish

This week I lost just .9kgs

Week 3
8:00 am 2 glasses of methi seeds water. 5 soaked almonds with the skin. 1 kali mirch.

9:00 am - 1 glass of milk and a fruit

11:30 am one fruit of your wish

1:30 pm 1 bran chappati and any vegetable

5:00 pm 1cup of milk or tea with 2 biscuits/ 1 small bowl bhuna channa/ 1bowl popcorn (not
the buttery act 2 ones but air popped popcorns without the butter)

7:30 pm 3 pcs steamed or roasted chicken or fish + salad (non vegetarians)

Any one of the following for vegetarians:

1. 1 bowl dal .+ 1 bowl curd + salad


2. 1 bowl veg + 1 bowl curd + salad

8:30 pm one fruit of your wish

Week 4
8:00 am - 2 glasses of methi seeds water. 5 soaked almonds with the skin. 1 kali mirch.

9:00 am - 1 glass of cold coffee and a bb toast

11:30 am one fruit of your wish


1:30 pm This week you have a lot of options which you can take alternatively.

1. 1 bowl sprouts + fruits

2. 2 bowl vegetables + salads

3. 1 bowl dalia + 1 bb toast

4. 1 bowl vegetables + 1 bb toast

5. 1 bowl kadhi + 1 quarter plate rice

5:00 pm - 1cup of milk or tea with 2 biscuits/ 1 small bowl bhuna channa/ 1bowl popcorn (not
the buttery act 2 ones but air popped popcorns without the butter)

7:30 pm 1 bran chappati and 1 bowl vegetable.

8:30 pm one fruit of your wish

By the end of the month you will definitely lose 3-6 kgs I lost 4.3 kgs in a month with PCOD.
Im sure u can do better.

He also gave me some really good gyan as well. According to him when on a diet your social life
wont stop but you can still manage your weight without locking yourself at home. Some
pointers for it. :

1. When you go out with friends try to have your lunch or dinner at subway. The
healthiest option out there. Take a veggie delite sub in brown bread and
eating out wont harm your diet and weight at all. Tell them not to put mayo
in it though.

2. If you dont have a say in the place of eating then make your choices
sensibly. If you go to eat Chinese have rice rather than noodles. Order stir
fried veggies instead of Manchurian. And control your proportions. Dont take
fried starters. Avoid those thick soups they are no good.

3. When going out just pick 2 fruits before sitting in the car and eat it on your
way to the venue. When you are already a little filled before going out. Your
somewhat filled stomach helps your mind take the right decision.

4. If eating Indian, order tandoori chappati rather than butter naan or parantha.
Take less gravy since it is the most fattening.

Even if you dont want to lose weight keep these points in your mind and you will be able to
maintain your weight easily.

This diet is superb, even i had joined Shikha Sharmas program. I followed it pretty
dilligently and I lost 8.2 kgs in one month. I was so damn happy for the entire month and
weighing machine was my best friend.
Then ofcourse I stopped it and as no more weight loss was required.
It brought in some discipline in my life but there is a word of caution ..I was also told
to have Chapattis mixed with Wheat Bran and it just became a way of life..my body
got habitual of getting so much of fiber that when I stopped mixing it in my chapatti for a
few months as I wasnt home and didnt have the luxury of having food according to my
whims and fancies I had consti******
So my suggestion would be to stick with natural fiber like fruits etc and not adding bran
to chapattis.

One of my friends was following that diet and god it was awful.. living on onion roti one
day, then fruits without salt the other and panner diet for another 2 days.. god i can never
do that..

Even im addicted to the bran rotis now, not had a normal chappati from dont know how
long.. but if im out or sumthing *touches wood first* havent experienced consti******
ever..

You know sometimes when you stay out the junk food and the lack of vegetables in diet
and the heavy food you get from outside could also become one of the reason for
const*****..
no offence its just what i think..

Onion Rotiyuck! Im a non vegetarian and had requested them to have a lot of non
vegetarian food along with vegetarian. Luckily I was never told to have all that..I could
have roasted chicken, missi roti(which I like). I mean the diet was pretty much like what
you have written. I guess it depends from person to person.And i had consti****** as I
didnt have chapattis with bran for about 3 months when I wasnt at home, my diet was
devoid of any junk food whatsoever just had plain wheat flour chapattis with veggies
not having it for once a while wont affect. Again I guess it might vary from person to
person and it did affect me :(

please dont visit or opt for shahpur jat center , you wont loose even one kgand theyll
ask you to have green mong dal in morning , lunch and evening i turned sick with the
diet plan.. maybe other center are fine but pls totally avoid this one.

Do try this out its pretty easy you just have to be strict with yourself about the aftre 7 salt
thing.. otherwise its a breeze.. im sure you will lose your post pregnancy pounds soon and

Thanks Tanveer.. Thats the whole idea of this diet LIFESTYLE CHANGE.. it actually
affects your skin as well i got such nice skin and all. because eliminating the junk and
having 2-3 servings of fruit and all good foods does makes a difference.. And the best
part is that when you are doing something you know is good for you, you actually feel
really light and happy. But when you step onto the weighing machine and notice the
pounds melting that is some other worldly bliss..

Thanks Lydia.. im glad you will be starting on this diet as well.. The water intake is the
usual 8-10 glasses a day.. i was actually very bad at it.. so i used to keep two 1 litr bottles
of water and kept sipping from it the whole day.. that ways i knew im taking my required
water intake..

oops i wasnt finished. Im following the theory of the Diamonds and I must say Im
impressed and I truly believe in the things they prescribe. But I think everyone has is own
way and one thing fits better to one person than the other. This diet plan looks good and if
Im ever going to switch methods all try this one!

Thanks soo much for sharing this diet plan. today is my third day of diet and believe me i
have lost 1.5 kgs. I am soo excited.

Earlier i used to either starve or bloate! But by following ur diet plan im feeling soo
active! neither i am bloating nor m starving.

Yes drinking hot water is believed to eliminate toxins from our body and increase the
metabolic rate as well. But i feel two glasses of it is sufficient you dont need to have it all
the time.

Totally true.. coconut water helps a lot in water retention and also it balances the
electrolytes in human body. The most healthy drink out there with the least calories.

Your welcome Renuca.. The peppercorns help in absorption of Vitamin B and many other
nutrients. Enhances metabolism leading to weight loss. Helps with bloating and
flatulence, prevents bacterial growth in the intestines. Pepper also helps to stimulate the
secretion of digestive juices or hydrochloric acid which is responsible for breaking down
protein in the stomach. If we dont make enough hydrochloric acid, we develop
conditions like poor digestion, heartburn or symptoms of indigestion.Has antioxidants. So
this little tiny kali mirch has a lot of benefits for our health.

Almonds have an extremely high nutritive value since they contain copper, iron and
vitamins. Almonds are high in fiber content. But the reason that dietitians tell us to have
almonds is, that, if you eat almonds first thing in the morning, they will set the
hydrochloric acid tolerance for the day and provide all-day protein digestion. Almonds

dal is mentioned in planis it advisable to have this bec i heard this will give weight
gain and have 60 % carbs.and instead it is advisable to preffer veg against pulses.pls

hi Sunita , with ur working hrs u can prepone the whole schedule instead of 8 start at 5.30
or 6 am ,carry ur fruit to school n also pack ur lunch.Can have ur tea the moment u come
home n then dinner n fruit . Im also a working lady rather a doctor with very erratic
schedules but i make it a point to carry my tiffins

thanks priyanka for this lovely dietactualy i had consulted a dietician long back and she
gave me almost the same diet mentioned here, i lost weight very much and it really
helped me to lose weight but the only bad thing i heard is dt ma face glow disappeared,
now again m gaining weight and i just want to lose 2 kgs so ws just wondering if i start
follow this diet will it still affect my face glow, i used to smoke too but now i have quit it

I just gone under knife in June 22.got operated for TLHnow im gaining weight
.problem of water retention too.
In morning body is light & seems slimer but as the day move ahead body seems to
swelled up & heavy.

I have tried everything and anything, I have lost 15 kg but now since two months its all
constant no wt loss whatsoever! x( I cant digest milk so i have 2 roti veg in mrning, 1
fruit at 11, lunch 2 roti+dal+salads in lunch, 3pm 1 fruit,5 1 tea with oats biscuits, 8
2roti+veg+salad. have green tea all day through and hot water. i have no constipation
problems so all well in dat way. i will folow this as well and see.I have 15kgs still to lose:
( i dnt knw what to do wedding in jan n now m all nervous!

m also following de diet chART..but mine is pretty diffrent frm you guys..
daily morning i ll do yoga for an hour and 15 mim meditation and i ll also tak dumbells
for 7min..
and aft tat i ll tak walk for 40 min wit empty stomach.befre doin tiz mrng i ll ve ly 2
glasses of water.. for mrng breakfast i ll go for fruitsexcept banana..for lunch icup of rice
wit 1 bowl of vegetable fry wit les oil nd som dal.. den at again evev i ll tak walk for 40
min.. at nyt i ll go for som fud lyk chappthi r somthng with less calorie..
m i following correctly..

do have a question for you, I am a breastfeeding mom for a 14 months old girl.Though its
not a full time feeding do I have to do any kind of variations to this diet plan of yours?or
Should I need to wait until my child is weaned?

invariably loose my focus after 2-3 days. how to remain motivated and not get tempted

Hi i did loose 1.9 kgs in first week.. Thanks a lot to ubut in the second week i m
unable to follow diet properly i get tempted. sometimes i jus loose the tempo and
start eating without caring about weight.specially when i am upset or not in a gud
mood :silly: pls suggest me something to control and can we have a diet holiday on
Sundays???

I read this article thoroughly and I am planning to start this Diet ASAP!!!! I was totally
depressed with my sudden putting on. I used to feel secretly proud about people
commenting on my Perfect figure and now since I joined office I have started putting
on. And from a healthy 55 Kgs I have gained more than 8 kgs!!!!!! EEEEKKKKKK

hey,
i was going through some weightwatchers program on the internet when i came across
this website. the diet plan looks very doable and also that the fact remains that no pain no
gain.
i love to eat but my body does not allow me to eat as much as i would if no consequence
s were there. i will start your diet from monday and hope to follow it through. i would

Hi ,
I started following your diet plan. the kali mirch as you said in the morning time but i feel
burning in my stomuck. so can i take it after eating the bread?
And at night i am feeling very hungry what to do ?
But i like to follow your diet its easy to follow and very convenient for me.
I also started using sugar free instead of sugar so it also makes lot of difference i think for
weight loss.

Hi Priyanka,
i have been following this diet chart from gone 3 days. Albeit,there has been certain
tweaking.
I go for brisk walking, followed by jogging and some yoga and exercises to reduce by
belly fat.(around-1 hr:20 mins in all)
i take almonds and methi water and pepper as per your guidance.
Take 2 toast with salads.
Do not take chapatti and dal for lunch but soaked grams,moong and peanuts.
Do you think these would help. Please guide , as i do not see any loss in my weight yet..:(
For evening i take my dinner by 9:00 PM, as i return quite late from the office to dine at
7:30 PM.

Hi Rati I have put on lots of weight without any reason. My doctor checked my thyroid,
PCOS, sugar, etc etc. Everything is negative, so she suspected that I might be insulin
resistent which is making it hard to lose weight. Now that I have your diet, I am going to
give it a shot.

My question is after 4 weeks, do we go back to week 1 diet?

charts and exercise, yoga but my hubby and in laws started teasing me every time i
loss hope and not continuing my schedule..before marriage my weight is 48 kgs . its just
three years only now my weight is 70 kgs

Hi Priya,

I have almost similar case. I can understand your condition. It has been six months to my
delivery. I was 72.5 after delivery and not reducing even half Kg. I made some changes in
my diet after reading this blog and started doing 30 min exercise in the office since 10
Aug, 2012. During this period, I had to eat outside for 4-5 days due to some family
outings but still I reduced 3 KGs and now I am stuck at 69.5 Kgs. Lets hope for the best.

Firstly accept my heart felt thanks for posting this diet plan. Being vegetarian with strict
indian palate and living overseas , it has been impossible to get a diet plan that includes
chapati ,dal subzi etc. Today is my fifth day of third week on the diet and although I have
not weighed myself yet, i can feel the clothes fitting more easily already. Like so many
others I request you to post or email me the second months eating plan. Also since I do
not have access to tulsi , i had two options .one continue with methi seeds or use basil.
I opted the first one. Can u also suggest a substitute for paneeri just used hommus.

Hey All, read all of ur blogs today..im actually looking for sum help myself..i have been
overweight all my life ya in between for mayb 2 yrs lost weight and attained a perfect
shape with lots of exercise and diet ..but now after marriage n tight work schedule i m
unable to work out at all.I have been following a diet from ages like you all have
mentioned but i guess my body has got used to eating less and no difference is seen at all.
I am also unable to workout but thinking of buying a treadmill and starting for very half
an hr.but do i have to make some changes in my diet plan..? Currently i have cereal
and toned milk for breakfast 1 rotil with dal and vegetables for lunch n then tea without
biscuits and a light dinner. Any advice?

Hey I am planning to start a diet from Sunday and I have couple questions

First of all I want to ask if I have to soak a methi over night to drink in the morning..??
and I also want to know if I have to stick with the same timings of the diet schedule or
can change the timings I work from 8AM in the morning so I wanted to know if I can
have that methi water with almond and black paper at 6 in the morning..??
I also want to know if it is fine to just walk/run for 30 to 40 mins instead of following

Hii

I really liked ur article n found it v useful.i ll b strtg ur diet frm tom morni m a
regular gymer and try to eat only healthy food.bt nvr got results as compared to my
routine.I ve got tonned no doubt bt nt lost weight more than 1kg or 2kgs in 1yearso
sometimes feel v disapponted.Bt with the help of ur diet i might get results .i really
wish to loose 3-4kgs atleast.

This diest chart looks very convenient and good to follow. I have started it from today. I

Hi Priyanka,

Your plan sounds great, have a couple of questions,


I have been taking this drink from some time , it claims a lot of health benefits, but does
this also help with weight reduction
A glass of milk, 3-4 soaked/ skinned almonds/ pinch of black pepper powder / pinch of
Cinnamon powder and honey. Blend and have it in the morning.
Most of the ingredients here are essential for weight reduction, does combining it all help
further.

I am insulin resistant too have tried my hand at the gym / yoga/ surya namaskars/
swimming, but i have not been able to lose weight at all. Will this help me ?
desperate to lose weight. will start on ur diet hoping it works Plz let me know if there
are ne additional precautions i need to take

This is an awesome diet plan.


i am looking at loosing 6-7 kgs. (how long should this take, approx? )
I will get onto this diet plan from tomorrow.

I have 1 silly question.

i actually work in the night shift.


So my day typically begins at 2 pm (when i wake up) and i am off to bed after early
breakfast (5-6 am).

Do you have any special tips for this routine as well.


Cos i mite hav to hav breakfast at lunch time etc ;)

One last question is the diet helps alone (without any cardio/exercise? ) or do u have an
exercise regime as well.

Please let me know.

I am inspired by your diet plan & so many of them having a fruitful result.
I am eager to follow this too. I am also diagonosed with PCOD & I am office timings are
wierd. I work from afternoon to mid night & its impossible for me to wake up at 8 in the
morning.

Hello Priyanka,

Could you please give some alternate option for week 1 morning diet?

8:00 am (as soon as you wake up) 2 glasses of methi seeds water ( soak 1tsp of methi
seeds in 2 glasses of water. Strain out the methi seeds and drink the water.

We live in UK and do not get methi easily here. Also could you please suggest if its okay
to have one bowl of multi grain cereal (high in fibre) to have with semi-skimmed milk as
breakfast in the morning. That is the usual thing we take evry morning.

hey Arushi if you really want to lose weight follow that Diet plan at the same time make
sure you dont intake Sugar, any dairy products(milk,paneer,cheese) untill u lose fats),
Caffeine, Alcohol, Red meat. These are few things which you got to avoid
strictly.Regular excercise is also important.Drink a lot of water.

Dear Priyanka ,

The article was very inspiring , reading it make me wanted to work for my once toned
body , so i took up your diet , however i took the liberty of modifying it a little , i have
black pepper with green tea and honey for starters in the morning 5.30 am , go for a long
run after that , coem back ahve almonds with pepper , breakfast i follow as advised by
you , and lunch i have to eat two chapatis , because my mum just wont let me eat 1 , rest
of the day goes as advised by you . However i do wish to say tht i do get hungry , i try
having a lot of water , tht kinda makes the hunger go away , but just wanted to ask if you
felt the same and what did u do about it .
