How to use the checklist


Underneath is a list of the documents you need to submit when you apply for family
immigration. Some of the documents you the applicant have to get and others the reference
person need to get.

Print the list.


Mark every submitted document in the check list
Fill out the questionnaire at the bottom of the list and sign the last page.
You as the applicant should then submit this checklist, the questionnaire and copies of
all the relevant documents at the local police station or a Foreign Service Mission. You
must also bring the original documents.

On this page, we use the words 'reference person' and 'applicant'

The reference person = the family member living in Norway.


The applicant = the person who wants to move to Norway or continue living here and
who needs a residence permit

The cover letter is the attachment you received via e-mail when you registered your application online.
Please print it and bring it with you. If it was not possible for you to apply online, please bring a filled-out

if you want to give your family member, or another person in Norway, permission to act on your behalf in
connection with your application: filled-in Power of attorney form

Application Portal.

Identity documents for the applicant


passport copy of all used pages

Birth certificate. If the birth certificate is a delayed/late certificate of birth (based on registration later than
six months after birth), the matriculation certificate or university or college certificate must be attached.

CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) if the applicant is over 18 years.

FRC (family registration certificate) if the applicant is over 18 years old, or CRC (Child registration
certficate) if the applicant is under 18 years

if relevant, a written explanation as to why you cannot present one or more of the documents mentioned

copy of the reference persons passport all used pages

Marriage Registration Certificate

Nikah Nama

divorce certificate or death certificate, if the applicant or the reference person has been married before.
As a main rule the divorce should be registered in the same country as the marriage was entered into.

Completely filled in family forms for parents and parents-in-law's- and own family

You will find the family forms on the website of the Norwegian embassy in Pakistan

if relevant, a written explanation as to why you cannot present one or more of the documents mentioned

Documentation of the income of the reference person (please choose


the cathegory which is relevant for the reference person)
You must document that the reference person has an income of at least NOK 306 700 per year pre-
tax now. In addition, the reference persons income last year must have been at about the same level.
The reference person also cannot have received any social security benefits during the last 12
months. Please check the income requirements, what kind of income that counts and whether you
can be exempted from any of the requirements at www.udi.no/incomerequirement.

Documents you must hand in if the reference person works

contract of employment or a confirmation from the employer

In the contract/confirmation it must be clear how long the employment will last and the scope (full time or
part-time) of the employment. If your work is temporary, you should enclose a confirmation from your
employer if it is possible to prolong your contract.

if the reference person had an income below NOK 300 000 before tax the last tax year: a written
statement from the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Organisation (NAV) which states that the reference
person has not received social security benefits or qualification benefits in the last 12 months

if the reference person had an income above NOK 300 000 before tax the last tax year: Self-declaration
which states that the reference person has not received social security benefits or qualification benefits
from the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Organisation (NAV) in the last 12 months

if the reference person has been a student at the university or university college level, please enclose
documentation of the reference person having accumulated at least 60 credits (or the equivalent) in the
year of the latest tax assessment notice . If the sponsor has been a vocational tertiary student (i.e.
student above secondary/high school), please enclose a written confirmation that the education was
completed within the prescribed time in the year of the latest tax settlement notice.

if the reference person has completed their national military service in the year of the previous tax
assessment notice, please hand in documentation which shows this.

NAV

decision from NAV which includes information regarding the size and duration of the benefit

if the reference person had an income below NOK 300 000 before tax the last tax year: a written
statement from the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Organisation (NAV) which states that the reference
person has not received social security benefits or qualification benefits in the last 12 months

if the reference person had an income above NOK 300 000 before tax the last tax year: Self-declaration

a confirmation that your firm is properly registered in Norway

a confirmation from your accountant that shows your monthly salary in the last three months

tax return with all the necessary supporting documents (income statement etc.)

if the reference person had an income below NOK 300 000 before tax the last tax year: a written
statement from the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Organisation (NAV) which states that the reference
person has not received social security benefits or qualification benefits in the last 12 months

Documents you must hand in if they apply to the reference persons current
situation

documentation on fixed periodic income, such as insurance payments, private pension schemes or rental
income

confirmation of participation in the introduction programme, and information about the duration of the
introduction programme.

decision regarding loans and/or grants received in connection with studies. It should be documented
which period is covered by the payments (the entire school year or parts thereof).

documentation on income abroad if the reference person is a Norwegian citizen, a citizen of one of the
Nordic countries, or holds a permanent residence permit (settlement permit) in Norway and has worked
abroad

The reference person must have earned at least NOK 252 472 per year pre-tax in 2015.

Documentation of the requirement for four years full time work or


studies (the four year requirement)
You only need to meet this requirement if

you married after the reference person came to Norway, and


the reference person is not a Norwegian citizen, and came to Norway as a
resettlement refugee, an asylum seeker, through family immigration, or was given a
residence permit on the grounds of strong humanitarian considerations or a particular
connection to Norway

Documentation which shows that the reference person has been in full time
work or education in Norway for four years

contract of employment or a confirmation from the employer(s)

tax assessment notice

confirmation/certificate or diploma from the school or place of study

confirmation of participation in the introduction programme

confirmation from NAV of your participation in the qualification programme

decision on disability pension or retirement pension

Originals and copies of the documents


Requirements for documents from Norway
You do not need to bring originals of documents from Norwegian authorities. You are only to
hand in a copy of the document. The copy does not need to be stamped or verified.

Requirements for documents from other countries than Norway


You must show all the documents in their original form, and your passport. The original
documents must be legalised by the foreign authority in the country where they are
issued. You can find information on which office you need to visit to get your documents
legalised in this list (external website).
You must also bring copies of all the documents. The copies must be verified by the
authorities in your country, or by a notarius publicus.
If your documents are in a different language than Norwegian, English, German or

French, they also have to be translated to Norwegian or English by an


authorised/certified translator. It must be stated on the translation who translated the
document and when.
Do you have documents from different countries? Check at udi.no/apostille what you
need to do to get documents from different countries certified.

Application questionnaire to be filled out by the applicant (not the


reference person in Norway)
The UDI will look at your answers when we process your application. It is therefore important
that you fill in this questionnaire as accurately as possible, even if not all the questions are
relevant to your situation.

place of birth and place of residence of the former spouse(s).

16. Do you and the sponsor have any children together, or are you expecting a child
together?

17. Do you or your spouse have any children from previous relationships? If yes, please list
the full name, age, place of birth and place of residence of the child(ren).
