21)
Design Power=Service FactorMotor Power

Design Power=1.420 hp

Design Power=28 hp

Based on 1250 rpm and Design Power of 28 the Belt falls into the category of a 3V belt
Speed Ratio=n 1 /n 2

Speed Ratio=1250 rpm/ 690 rpm

Speed Ratio=1.812

Pully Diameter Ratio =1.812

V b=( dn1 )/12

4000=( d1250)/12

400012
d=
1250

d=12.22

Using standard sizes for driving pulleys we obtain a d 1=10.55 and d 2=18.95

Actual output speed=n 1d 1 /d 2

Actual output speed=125010.55/18.95

Actual output speed=695.9 RPM

Rated Power=9+1.4
Rate Power=10.4 hp

D<C<3 ( d+ D )

18.95<C<3(10.55+18.95)

18.95<C< 88.5

I decided to pick a C value close to 18.95 that was an integer value. I decide to pick a C value of
20.
Then I computed the required belt length

( Dd )
L=2 C+ +
2 ( d+ D ) 4C

2
( 18.9510.55 )
L=220+ +
2 ( 10.55+18.95 ) 420

L=87.2

After looking at the table to determine standard sizes I chose a belt length of L = 90in. Then from
the belt length I had to find the new center distance.

C=

C=21.43

Then I computed the angle of wrap for the small pulley.

Dd
1=1802 sin1 ( )
2C
18.9510.55
1=1802 sin1 ( )
221.43

1=157.4

From the various graphs given I obtained a correction factor of angle of wrap of C =.94 and

a correction factor for belt length of C L =1.07 . From the information above I calculated the
corrected power.
Corrected Power=C C LP

Corrected Power=.941.0710.4

Corrected Power=10.46 hp

of Belts=28/10.46

of Belts=2.68

I had to round up and used 3 belts.

Design Power=64 hp

From the Belt selection guide for synchronous belt it is determined that the belt for this specific
problem has to have a pitch of 14M.
Speed Ratio=n 1 /n 2

Speed Ratio=1500/550

From table 7-7 I decided to use a No.40 chain .5in pitch, N 1=25 on small sprocket, type B

lubrication.
N 2=N 1Speed Ratio

N 2=252.84

N 2=70.97

I rounded up to obtain a larger sprocket of 71 teeth.

I decided to try a nominal center distance of 30 pitches. This would result in nominal center
distance of 15in.
