An exit slip inquiring about purposes and examples of digital
media using Socratic
Teacher Input I will give a prezi presentation on the purposes and real life
applications of digital media
I will instruct students to sketch a single product of their choice.
Once students have finalized their sketches, I will review all
sketches.
Guided Practice I will guide students and instruct them on the basic workings and
capabilities of Paint.Net
Once students are finished with their traditional mixed media
piece I will assist them in photographing their work and importing
their image to be edited and altered in Paint.Net
After students have finished adding the digital elements to their
art I will guide them through the printing process so they may
have a tangible copy of their art.
Independent Practice Students will begin to create their own mixed media piece in an
8 x 10 format based on the sketch of their chosen product while
I circulate the classroom. Media choices are completely up to
the individual student.
Once the students have successfully uploaded the image of their
work and imported it into Paint.Net they will be able to edit the
work independently to finalize their piece.
Differentiated Instruction
Differentiation is built into this lesson. The content is open enough to
accommodate skill levels and abilities of all types. Assessment will rely
heavily on completion and ability to follow the designated process rather
than the quality of the final product giving every student a clear pathway
towards success rather than favoring those who may be more artistically
inclined. Those who do excel are welcome to and will be encouraged to
work to their skill level. Students who are less interested may opt to take
a more simplistic approach.
Closure Students will be able to present their piece of art to their peers after it is
printed. Work will be hung and students will be given the opportunity to
reflect on their experience. We will end the lesson with a group
discussion regarding the effective aspects of digital media and how those
sentiments are extended to daily life.
Time Allotment One 90 minute class period to introduce the lesson and begin sketching

import students work

Instructional Materials Pencils, erasers, paper, pastels, acrylic paint, markers, colored pencils,
crayons, chalk, iPad camera, computer, Paint.Net software, smartboard,
projector, prezi presentation, printer, Socratic exit slip
Resources Andy Warhols silk screen prints as an example of popular mixed media
images, Rosie the Riveter wartime poster, Uncle Sam government poster
