Lesson plan-Sustainable Consumption and production.

TIME: 80 min
Teaching level: Grades 4-5.

DESCRIPTION: In this lesson students will investigate their

consumption habits and increase awareness of how improperly
handled waste impacts the environment. This lesson encourages
observation and analysis skills as students explore and then discuss
the impact that has been made to the environment.

RELATED SUBJECT AREAS: science, general education classes,

language classes.

OBJECTIVE IN DETAIL:

Students will:
-recognize that everyone contributes to the amount of waste
created each day.
- recognize the extent of global consumption of Earth's natural
resources and understand how this affects our environment as well
as the lives of people around the world.

Methods:
-Discussion
- Group discussion about the future
- Brainstorming- mindmapping ideas

Materials/tools
-Ipads, internet access, projector, projection screen , papers,
markers, pens.

Activities:

1. Students will research and read articles and identify the

consequences of different environmental problems.
2. Students will create a mindmap.
3. Students observe and document natural and human features
in their locale (during a walk around the neighborhood or a
trip downtown, for example), and evaluate the impact of
changes made by humans.
4. Review - each will share one thing they have learned during
this lesson, and one thing they can personally do to improve the
environment.
