Year 11
Student Reflective Comment /
This year I have been challenge beyond a point that I thought possible. The Attendance
second semester in particular was extremely challenging. The Central Studies
included topics that I struggled to wrap my head around, such as physics and Please see below for a summary
chemistry. If I could repeat this semester again I would make more of an effort of attendance statistics:
to delve deeper into those subjects, instead of just striving to understand the
basics. To do this I could ask my teacher for more resources or look online. My Total Days Absent 6.5
skills in self reflection have improved enormously because I have been making
an effort to try and draft all of my work, and to check the rubric after I get an
assignment back to see where I need to improve. This skill has helped prepare
me for when I start Stage 2 next year, as I need to be handing up the best work Term 3 Adventure Space
possible. One of the general capabilities I have improved on this year is the Service Club
Literacy capability, I have made an effort to improve my vocabulary and drafting
skills because they were lacking previously. My favourite memory from this year
Term 4 Adventure Space
is finishing my first year 12 subject, Research Project. That subject was the most
challenging thing I have ever completed which was why the day I submitted my Science and the Arts
final assignment I celebrated the whole following weekend by catching up on
some sleep. A goal of mine for next year is to improve my drafting process, this
is something that I have not yet perfected so I will be making a conscious effort
to do it next year. Overall, this has been a really good year for me, I have
improved numerous skills and made some lasting memories.

Learning Studies Teacher Comment /

I have really enjoyed Sareyas friendly, sunny disposition in Learning Studies. I
have seen her confidence and self-awareness grow enormously this year and
am keen to support her to continue into next year. She has set herself some
realistic goals for the coming year. My big challenge for her for next year is to
see her step up as a leader in both our group and across the blue team.

Central Studies Topic Descriptions

Earth and Cosmos (E&C)

Earth and Cosmos explores our understandings of the sun,
moon and stars, and the challenges of human space
exploration. Students examine the evidence for the formation
and structure of our universe and solar system. The role of
atmospheric and planetary composition, potential alien life,
the effect on humans and the scientific basis of successful
space exploration are explored in detail. Earth and Cosmos is
a powerful combination of physics, physiology, psychology,
biochemistry, astronomy and literacy. A

Maths and Abstract Thinking

The focus of this central study is for students to develop the
ability to apply mathematical reasoning and logic to engage
with, explore, and explain, the intricate and at times chaotic
relationships found within mathematics and the world.
Students are encouraged to explore multiple learning
approaches throughout the course to develop their
understanding. B

Truth and Perception (T&P)

In Truth and Perception, students examined some of the
theories about light, chemical reactions, biological processes
and the purpose of language and images. They explored
scientific knowledge as a collection of overlapping models,
each with its own limitations in describing nature. By exploring
the same phenomena through these different levels of
abstraction, they confronted the notion that science is about
understanding doubt as much as discovering truth. B

Grade Scheme Development as a Self Directed Learner

Final Stage 2 results will be provided through the SACE At the ASMS, significant emphasis is placed on students

each overall subject grade and an indication of how this grade considered within four constructs: motivation, efficacy, effort,
is made up of the moderated school assessed grade (70%) and and reflection.
the external assessment grade (30%). Detailed information on
