How Does Mentos Affect Water Temperature?

What Are The Ingredients In Mentos?

Have you ever think about to put a mentos into the water and see if it affects the
temperature of it. A mentos is a type of candy that can make you refreshing, it makes
your mouth fele cooler, but will it affect other can melted liquid. And is it gonna change
the water cooler too?

Mentos is a cheap small pack of candies which people have it for make them feel

refreshed. The ingredients in mentos consist of a small amount of sugar, wheat, glucose,

hydrogenated coconut oil, some rice starch, dextrin, and also gellan gum that makes the mentos

taste more chewy just like chewing a gum and rubber. It is mixed with fruits elements so that

changes the flavor and the color of mentos. It also has a special flavor that is mint, it is what

makes your mouth feel cool, what makes you feel refreshed. ( Glucose, sugar, wheat,

dextrin, gellan gum ) if the mentos doesnt change the

hydrogenated coconut oil, rice starch,

water temperature, then the mentos can only affect something that has nervous system.

It has a tiny amount of fat ( 1.5g), 10 mg of cholesterol, 490 mg of Potassium and 2g of dietary

fiber. These elements are not bad for your body and the dietary fiber is even good for you.

Why Do Minty Candies Cause Your Mouth To Feel Cooler?

In the mentos, there is a special flavor that is the mint. Mint is the main part of the flavor

mentos. Inside the mint, there is a chemical called menthol, and that element causes your brain to

react to the feeling in your mouth so in a scientific way of speaking, it is just thermal illusion that

happens when our nervous system get fooled by the stimuli, and it plays on our brain and

convinces your taste receptors they are exposed to cold. It also activates the menthol, there is a

compound inside of the menthol, peppermint. Peppermint is something that sometimes the cool

turns from cool to a little bit spicy and that element the taste of the mint. But the cold wont last

too long because it will only stimulate cool for a short time period. But when you stop chewing

and spit it out, some mint would still stay in your mouth for a while and stay sensitized. ( Mint,

cool )

What does it Mean for Something to Dissolve? And What causes Substances to Dissolve?

Dissolving means that something is liquid and the amount of volume is higher than a

single object, and when it dissolves, it decrease the volume of the object which it will change the

surface and the its volume.Or it could also understand such as a maximum amount of solution

that dissolves in a solvent ( liquid ) as so called equilibrium ( balance ). The meaning of

equilibrium is a state where reactant, object or products to reach a balance. When mentos

dissolves in water or in our mouth, there is a new bond between the liquid and mentos. During

the process, energy from the liquid will break down the bonds between molecules of the mentos.

Many substances and mixed with water so during the process, part of mentos will mixed with

water. ( Dissolve )

How Does Surface Area Affect the Rate at Which a Substance Dissolves?

One other factor to consider affects the rate of solubility. During the process, if the object

is big, then the water would dissolve slower. If the object it small, then it dissolves faster. (Just
Long 3

for mentos or other objects that can be melted ) There are two effects of solubility: temperature

and pressure.Temperature has direct effect on solubility. The substance that does the dissolving

is called the solvent. So the maximum amount of the water dissolves in a given amount of

solvent at a concrete temperature. ( Rate, temperature, solubility )

Which Substances, When Dissolved, are Known to Change Water Temperature?

The temperature will change that occurs when element crush on another element. So

when mentos is dropped into the water, the water changes the surface temperature of mentos.

When mentos is dissolving in water, it will change the temperature for a little, but actually it

wont affect the water temperature because water doesnt have a nervous system like human

does, so it wont turn as cold as we feel. When the water is dissolving a large massive substance,

it may not dissolve too fast and it may not completely dissolve. So it may not change the

temperature. The substances energy might change the temperature of the water.

When the substance is already dissolved, it will turn water to the substance and the amount of

energy will change to the substance and the temperature will change also.

What is the Most Accurate Way to Measure Water Temperature?

My hypothesis for my science fair is the mentos would not change the temperature

of the water, because water doesnt have a nervous system like human does, so it wont

affect the water. To use a professional temperature measure machine would be the best choice

to measure water temperature, or the normal type of temperature measurer. The way to measure

temperature is to measure the regular temperature first and after a while measure it again to see

the difference. ( by using ordinary thermometer ). Deep funnel with rubber tubing and clamp,

with different colour scales and the timer, ring stand with 2 clamps, thread so suspend

thermometer and put the beaker inside that the environment will not affect the testing. Make sure

that the water temperature is always the same. It has to be average. And Understand the

molecular level.
