Presently teaching at the UST Conservatory of Music, Ranera is the conductor of the
UST Symphony Orchestra and Wind Orchestra. In 2003, he was chosen as a Dangal
Awardee (most outstanding faculty), Performing Arts Category by the University of
Santo Tomas and recently, the 2006 Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan Awardee for
Music given by the City of Manila. He is currently the associate conductor of the
Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.
He won second place at the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA)
Solo Bassoon Category C in 1992. Mendoza was also a winner of the International
Students Music Competition for solo instrument in Tokyo, Japan.
In 1995, Mendoza performed with the Asian Youth Orchestra at the White House, in
Carnegie Hall and in nine major cities in the USA. He was featured in the CCPs
Filipino Artists Series in September 2002, and as soloist of the PPO in the same year.
He participated in the Manila Wind Chamber Concert Tour to Seoul, South Korea in
November 2002, and performed as the principal bassoonist of the Philippine
Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) for its European tour to Austria, Czech Republic, Spain
and Germany in 2001 and its Japan concert tour in September 2002; among other
international performances.
