Despite the progress in medicine, peritonitis remains associated with the risk of developing systemic instability and, in consequence,
death (15). Management of such patients requires dynamic diagnostic and therapeutic
actions. In order to facilitate identification of
patients in the high-risk group, many prognostic scoring systems have been developed, including one of the simplest in use the Mannheim Peritonitis Index (MPI).
The simplicity of the MPI results from the
fact that it is based on measurable clinical
