1A.

I chose nursing because it is a huge and very important role in a

hospital. While technology is changing many other professions, it has
been a very positive change in hospitals. Nurses can look up patients
records while being with the patient instead of having to go to a
records room and find a file. There are many amazing new machines
that will help diagnose patients correctly and fast. Even new
treatments such as laser therapy and radiotherapy that helps with
cancer patients. Technology has improved even the simplest day-today parts of their jobs such as measuring blood pressure and lifting
patients. According to a nurse who was interviewed for this article, one
of the biggest daily differences is the sphygmomanometer. (Rush
University Medical Center)One of the problems nurses experience in
their job is a physical problem because of lifting patients; VA records
showed that more than 2,400 of its nursing staff suffer debilitating
injuries every year from lifting patients, as reported by NPR.

1B. This was a sad video that had a very good meaning, showing many
different patients and those who worked there who had different things
going on in their lives. Oftentimes working around the same thing we
can become numb to it and care only about what is going on in our
own lives. We do not give the people we are working with as much care
and sympathy as they need. Hospitals need to be more patientcentered; caring even a little more about patients will help them feel
more comfortable and a bit happier. Bed side manner is the coined
term for this, when nurses and physicians have bed side manner they
have an easier time with patients and patients in turn are more willing
to be seen and get medical procedures done. (ClevelandClinic)
2A. I decided to research a clinic in Gainesville because it is always
good to know where one is. I did the Equal Access Clinic that is located
on Waldo Road. Their mission is The Equal Access Clinic is a network
of student-run free clinics that strives to: Provide Quality
Comprehensive Healthcare For All Our vision is to improve the
physical, mental and social well-being of all, by enhancing access to
high-quality, comprehensive, patient-centered care and by facilitating
community-level action.
2B. The reason this is a free clinic is because it is run by medical
students and faculty from UF and is funded by the community such as
Alachua Countys Health Services. This clinic offers many services
including; dental, physical therapy, and psychology. They are only open
on certain days and times and have calendars on the website that
show those dates.
