Letter of Qualities:
Dear Carys,
I think one of my best qualities in life is balancing a structure and
organization with creative freedom. I recently took an online quiz, where is
said I am exactly 50% right brain and 50% left brain. Setting aside the
legitimacy of this quiz, I think there is something to be said about my
understanding of how both sides of the human brain operate. This has been
very evident since my time in junior high and high school. I loved math and
the strict rules that you had to follow in order to solve the problem, but I also
loved literature and art and sharing the human experience through
expression. In college I found that acting is the pinnacle of balancing my
structural and creative side because in acting you have to define and
structure your work meticulously in order to have the freedom to explore and
create.
With this understanding of how the brain works, I developed a curiosity
for how humans function and the different strengths that every person has. I
believe I am an amazing collaborator because I am genuinely interested in
learning from other people. I know that I do not have all of the answers, and
the people that you interact with on a daily basis provide the opportunity to
learn and grow.
My passion for the theatre arts is inherently connected to this love of
learning. There is an infinite amount of information to learn about acting,

from the specific techniques to the human experience. I have immersed

myself into acting literature and coursework. I have taken active steps to
discover what it means to be human by traveling to different countries and
leaving home to pursue higher education.
I think another strong aspect of my acting, is my ability to personalize
material, and understand where I am coming from in order to act the text. I
think strong actors have to have a strong point of view. You need a reason to
say the things you are saying. Bringing your entire self deepens the actors
work. Highlighting the particularity of a humans existence somehow makes
acting more universal. If you understand yourself, you can better understand
another person, and fully step into a character.
I believe a persons education never ends. Each day is a day to learn
something new. My desire to go to graduate school is rooted in this desire to
learn. There is always something else to learn or something else to deepen
what you already know. This realization takes a lot of humility there are
things that I dont know. But if a person acknowledges this humility and takes
action to learn to new things, there is wealth of information available.
