Reflection – Case Group 2
• Reconvened at 4PM in Dipoli
• Asked to reflect on our days activities
• Asked to hear/share reflection with Case
Group 1
– Achievements
– Actions
– What is next?
Our Reflection Time
• Reflected on Nokia presentation
• Asked are we being sufficiently expansive?
• Conversation
– Social media could be conduit for university‐
industry collaboration, but learning is more than
tools
– Universities seek to provide ‘deep’ knowledge
education/training
– Too much teaching, not enough learning

ACSI Development Path
The Context
– Enterprises that are global in scope
– Employees interacting in virtual, technology driven‐environments
– Use of social media creating new communication paths
– A cross‐cultural workforce
– Constant change – coping with the unexpected
– Need for transformation as opposed to adjustment
– Ability to work in teams
– Flexible, “ambassadorial” leadership styles
– New concepts of “competence:” ability to navigate, analyze, synthesize
– Changing competition as new kinds of players enter the market
– New definitions of “productivity”
– Shorter times to production
– Younger employees seeking challenge and opportunities for personal development
– Need for continuous learning (not just “teaching”)
– Learning materials provided in shorter bursts, just when needed
– “Democratization” of information resulting in re‐distribution of power

Integration of Ideas
Vision: LLL gives people knowledge and
professional and professional skills to keep
them employable and happy as well as
capable to work and contribute to society.
Vision
Behaviors
Structures
Values and beliefs
ACSI Development Levels
• Level 0: Identifying Needs and Potential
– Needs: rapid changes (knowledge, work force,
economy, global presences, etc) so how should
learning (LLL) respond and lead both workforce and
economic development (via human capital)
– Viewpoints: society, individual, university, industry,
government have potentially different views of the
needs
– Potential: Significant impact and not business as usual
‐ ‘game changing’ influence for society
• Level 1: Formulating Strategic Intent
– The Premise

ACSI Development Levels
• Level 2‐5: Thoughts
– Educational Value Chain (Star) providing potential
common language enabling university‐industry
collaboration/co‐creation because belief that real
LLL must be done with real partnerships
– Learning is for both individuals and organizations
– Challenges: change management of actors and
processes
Potential Actions
• Use social media to learn strengths/weaknesses
• Use social media to explore the case 2 ideas and
seek both forum for our discussion but
expansive engagement with others
– What might have once been a white paper is now in
the social media forum

Historical Perspective
• Workforce Perspective
– Agrarian culture: many farmers to fewer farmers
as became more efficient, enabling new jobs
– Manufacturing culture: many factory workers to
fewer workers as more automation, enabling new
jobs
– Service culture: many service workers, some in
knowledge service, but it too will decline
– What’s next? Wisdom (meta knowledge)?
