STUDENTS DEBATE
Objectives:
To provide a significant training ground for the development of students
communicative abilities.
To develop the ability to analyze controversies, select and evaluate evidence,
construct and refute arguments.
Qualifications:
Must have 3 official participants and 1 reserve per team
Must be a bona fide BSBA/BSTM student of SLTCFI
Guidelines & Mechanics:
Each team must be registered on or before February 11, 2017.
Registration form will be released on the first week of February.
Only those who are registered will be regarded as the official participants.
Each team participants, together with the team leaders or team managers
MUST attend the meeting/ orientation on February 15, 2017, 1:00 PM at SL
Pearanda.
Backing out two days before the competition will signify DISQUALIFICATION
for the team.
The debaters must be in the events hall by 12:30 in the afternoon. 15
minutes grace period will be given to the participants. Failure to arrive on
time will denote DEFAULT for the team.
DEFAULT will automatically have no score for the event. DISQUALIFICATION on
the other hand, will mean DEFAULT and will imply a 100-point deduction from
the total score of the team.
During the presentation, the participants should be in complete uniform.
The debate will be divided into two parts:
o Part 1: Elimination Round
Choosing of the Proposition and Opposition Teams will be based
on draw lots on the meeting/ orientation on February 15, 2017.
A pool of proposition will be given two days before the
competition (February 20, 2017). The final proposition will be
given at 5:00 in the afternoon, a day before the event (February
21, 2017).
International rules of Basic Parliamentary form of Debate will be
followed.
o Part 2: Final Round
The winners of part 1 will be the one to compete for the second
and final part of the event.
Proposition will be given during the meeting/ orientation.
International rules of Oxford- Oregon form of Debate will be
followed.
The debate will be judged on the following criteria:
