Lesson Title: The Glass Castel of Our Lives (Part 1 A Woman on the Street)

Grade: 6th

Goals or Objectives:
Students will interpret Jeanette Walls memoir and relate Jeanettes experience to a memoir of
themselves. In order to write their own memoir the students will execute correct spelling within their
memoirs.

I will ask the students to analyze the memoir of Jeanette Walls in order to describe their own memoirs. I
will ask the student to argue their reasoning for their interpretation from their readings. The students will
then justify their answers in an open discussion with their students. The students will continue to
evaluate their responses as well as their groups discussions by synthesizing their answers in order to
come to a consciences.

Lesson Plan: Procedures will be bulleted and scenarios are concisely written.
Before: Before the lesson students will read The Glass Castle. The students will be asked their feelings
about the book and engage in an open discussion about Part 1 A Woman on the Street. The students
will be asked how they would respond if he or she saw their mother or father on the street. After the
discussion the lesson will be introduced and the students will arrange the desks in a circle in order to
begin the lesson. The lesson will be introduced.
During:
The students will finish the open discussion and transition into a vocabulary lesson.
The students will have options of how to complete the vocabulary definitions
There will be three options on how to complete the vocabulary work, though drawing pictures,
though using the words in a short story, or though creating an short skit with the dialogue
including the vocabulary words. The students will be allowed to choose groups for themselves as

long as there are three students in each group.


After 20 minutes the students will have the opportunity to share their choices with the rest of the
class.
The students will engage in the Prezi presentation
The students will then discuss the quality of writing throughout Jeanette Walls memoir.
Focusing specifically on Part 1 A Woman on the Street. The students will also discuss what
aspects of writing are necessary in a memoir.
The students will have the opportunity to ask questions.

After:
The lesson will transition to the wrap up which includes the teacher reviewing what was
covered in the class discussion.
The student will be assigned their homework activity where they will have the opportunity to
write their own memoir, recalling what was went over in the lesson in regards to the contents of
a memoir. In their homework students will be asked to engage in sharing a Snapshot of their
memoirs on a Padlet
