Purpose
a)

To define the method of installation of uPVC drainage in toilet and kitchen


areas of office building.
Scope

a)

This method statement is applicable for uPVC drainage piping employing


the approved materials.
Responsibilities

a)

QA/QC personnel main task is to ensure the quality of work and materials
delivered to site as per specifications, drawings, manufacturers
recommendations, site instructions and latest applicable local and
international standards.

b)
The project engineer-in-charge is responsible for carrying out detailed
engineering and manpower planning within the scope of contract,
preparation, review of shop drawings and materials take-off leading to
the procurement as per approval by the consultant.
c)
Site engineer is responsible for daily site work coordination and briefs
supervisors daily tasks to be undertaken.
d)
Safety officer ensures and enforce appropriate measures to protect,
prevent and provide safety to both lives and properties on site.
e)
Storekeeper shall inspect materials delivered for any damage and/ or
discrepancy before advising QA/ QC for inspection.
He shall be responsible for proper storage of the materials received on
site.

Approved Shop drawings related to the working area.

Piping manufacturer documentations/ catalogues.

Equipment/ Tools/ Material Requirements


a)

Tools needed are:

Concrete drilling machine


Rubber Hammer
Scaffolding
b)

Materials needed are:


uPVC pipes & fittings
Drop-in anchors, Threaded rod
Pipe clamps
Lubricant, cleaner and solvent.
Pre-Preparation Work

a)

Check the wall/floor sleeves, opening sizes, positions, etc. according to


approved Shop drawings.

b)

Confirm availability of storage space, storage and delivery method for


piping materials.

c)
Check all pipes and fittings for damage before any installation.

Safety Precautions
a)

As necessary, barricade or secure the affected work areas as safety


precautions.

b)

Always wear PPE for personal safety and protection within project site.

c)

Always wear proper eye goggles and dust mask while undertaking
concrete drilling works.

Work Procedure
For below ground pipes:
a)

Check routing of pipes as per approved shop drawing

b)

Mark the location of sanitary fixtures, clean-outs and floor drains.

c)

Excavation for pipe trench shall be by manual method.

d)

Level the trenches as per required levels and must be free from stone
and other foreign materials.

e)

Lay the pipes as per the invert levels and slope shown in the approved
shop drawing and according to the position of sanitary fixtures.

f)

Clean all inside portion of all fittings and pipes to be connected by PVC
cleaner before joining and apply enough amount of PVC cement to each

joint.
g)

Back fill the trench with approved materials leaving open the pipe joints
and prepare for leak test.
Leak test procedure:

a)

All horizontal pipes shall be tested after installation by filling up the pipes
with water up to 1.5 meters head after plugging all openings. The whole
piping will be observed for 2 hours for leakage. If any leakage is found in
pipes or fittings, the same will be removed and repaired immediately.

b)

If no visible reduction in water level as can be seen in the test header


pipe , it shall be immediately submitted to KM or his representative for
final inspection and approval.

e)

Once approval from KM is achieved, then, backfilling work shall


commence.

For above ground pipes:


a)

For this project, the only above ground portion is the vertical vent pipe to
the roof and the fixation to sanitary fixtures.

b)
This portion can be included in the leak test as described in the below
ground pipes.
