Siddhartha: "The Brahmin's Son" (1-9)

Research and define the following terms (some are Buddhist terms, some
are people/objects, and some are regular vocabulary words).
Brahmina - person usually from an old, respected family who, because of
wealth and social position, wields considerable social, economic, and political
power.
Om - a mantric word thought to be a complete expression of Brahman and
interpreted as having three sounds representing Brahma or creation, Vishnu
or preservation, and Siva or destruction
Art of contemplation & meditation the art to relax your mind and
concentrate on something and heal yourself using mostly a mantra of some
sort. Most people belibe that mediation can help you achieve a high view or
level of life called nirvana
Atman- the spiritual life principle of the universe, especially when regarded
as inherent in the real self of the individual.
Avaricious - having or showing an extreme greed for wealth or material gain.
All-Radiant- describing someone as a holy loving person probably someone
that is looked up to
Atonement to repent for something you have done usually to a god or
someone worshipped to and hope to be forgiven for that mistake
Emanating - give out or emit
Rig-Veda- to praise or shine
Discontent- lack of contentment; dissatisfaction with one's circumstances.
Suffice - be enough or adequate.
Ablutions- the act of washing oneself (often used for humorously formal
effect
Supplication- the action of asking or begging for something earnestly or
humbly.
Prajapati- is a group of Hindu deities presiding over procreation and
protection of life, and thereby a King of Kings
Transient - lasting only for a short time; impermanent.
Upanishads of Sama-Veda- is the Veda of melodies and chants. It is an
ancient Vedic Sanskrit text, and part of the scriptures of Hinduism. One of
the four Vedas, it is a liturgical text whose 1,875 verses are primary derived
from the Rigveda.
Sages- an aromatic plant with grayish-green leaves that are used as a
culinary herb, native to southern Europe and the Mediterranean.
Insatiable - impossible to satisfy.
Discourses - written or spoken communication or debate
Chandogya-Upanishads- is a Sanskrit text embedded in the Chandogya
Brahmana of the Sama Veda of Hinduism. It is one of the oldest Upanishads.
It lists as number 9 in the Muktika canon of 108 Upanishads.

Satya - Satya is the Sanskrit word for truth. It also refers to a virtue in Indian
religions, referring to being truthful in one's thought, speech and action.
Banyan tree- an Indian fig tree whose branches produce aerial roots that
later become accessory trunks. A mature tree may cover several acres in this
manner.
Samanas - People. Samana, Samaa, or Shramana, the name for certain
wandering ascetics from Indian subcontinent, one of whom was Gautama
Buddha, from Nepal.
Ascetics - a person who practices severe self-discipline and abstention.
Undeviating - the acceptance of something undesirable but inevitable.
showing no deviation; constant and steady.
Resignation - an act of retiring or giving up a position.
Bast (mat made of)Disillusionment - fibrous material from the phloem of a plant, used as fiber in
matting, cord, etc.
Benumbed - deprive of physical or emotional feeling.
Pilgrim- a person who journeys to a sacred place for religious reasons.
