INTRODUCTION
In the future, the responsibility of developing and advancing my country and its
people will be carried by the students of the generation whore are currently pursuing
higher education. Of course to carry this noble burden is not a light task; it requires
young students that are competent in their respective fields. The knowledge they require
is not only theoretical knowledge that they study in university, but experience in real
world that is most often different than the theoretical world. Therefore we are as a student
of Mechanical Engineering in the University of Indonesia feel the need to have direct
experience before plunging into the real world of industry.
The knowledge that we gain will give great benefit to my future career. We feel
that the requirements to enter the upcoming era of globalization will need those two
basics i.e. the theoretical knowledge and the field/work experience.
Furthermore field training is one of a must subject in the curriculum of
Mechanical Engineering in the University of Indonesia which is aimed to train the
students competence, develop and implement their knowledge. Moreover through field
training, the students will get a clear picture of the industry, such as oil industry,
specifically about the operations of drilling, production and all kind of its problem. We
believe to achieve this goal, requires support of various parties from the university, the oil
industry and other stakeholders.
Based on the information we got, Chevron is one of the world's leading
integrated energy companies and conducts business worldwide. Chevron is involved in
virtually every facet of the energy industry. It explores for, produce and transport crude
oil and natural gas; refine market and distribute transportation fuels and lubricants;
manufacture and sell petrochemical products; generate power and produce geothermal
energy; provide energy efficiency solutions. One reason that we would like to have field
training in this company is its programme of transfer of knowledge/technology as a
follow-up of the Indonesian government policy.

CONCLUSION
Therefore we put forward this proposal to have field training. We hope that it will be
considered by the parties involved in the company of Chevron. We strongly hope to get a
chance to have field training in Chevron as well as assistance, direction and evaluation
from the company so that this field training programme will be performed smoothly and
beneficial to all parties. We thank you very much for your attention and cooperation.
