From: Allen, Chuck [CAllen@washoccounty.us} Sent: December 15, 2016 at 3:50:52 PM To: Sheriff - All Employees Subject: Sheriff's Message--December 15, 2016 Greetings WCSO Family- Its hard to believe we are already approaching the halfway point of my four-year term serving as your Sherift The old adage that time flies faster as you age is apparently true; especally for me. love serving as Sherif | truly love this community, and have to say this is the most rewarding level of service and honor anyone could ever dream of Running for any elected office requires a strong and dedicated commitment to service, lots of planning and strategizing, fundraising, knocking on thousands of doors, as wel as attending countless public speaking engagements, interviews by the media, ‘and presentations to multiple organizations in our community. Running for office also requires individuals who desire 10 seek public office to get their name recognized inthe community which requires a significant amount of time, visibility and energy. As the elected Sherif ofthis great county, I, too, would need to start planning and organizing now for the next election cycle in an effort to request the community for a second term to serve in this honorable position, ‘After contemplating ths future path with my wife Teresa about where we are collectively in our lives, we have decided that seeking ‘second term isnot in our future. | can’t begin to stress how difficult this decision has been for the two of us. | have placed public service as a priority for decades, even before we were married 24 years ago, and it’s important for me at this time to seriously look forward and to be abla te spend more time with family. Basically, what it boils down to ix my wife doas not want me working seven days a week anymore. ‘To provide some additional information for each of you, | will share that after winning the 2014 election and leaving my career with the State of Nevada and the Nevada Air National Guard, | had to apologize to my wife and children for all ofthe family, school, and sporting activities that | missed as a father and husband; ultimately placing my careers frst. On the other hand, my wife Teresa has always encouraged me te follow my dreams and has always stood by my side and supported my career goals and aspirations, including running for Sherif It's easy to think or say that I could delegate more tasks to the executive staff, but my DNA stil won't allow to give less than 100, percent in everything | do. Furthermore, i's dificult for me to say “no” when asked to engage in commurity events, because high visibility in the community has been, and will continue to be, a high priority to me. ‘Another important point to add is that several indivduals have already asked me if | would be seeking a second term, andif| don't, they would like an opportunity to start planning their campaign efforts for thisoffice. ‘Making this announcement to all of you at this time, provides these contemplating this difficult decision with information that may be vita to their decision making, Most importantly, as someone whois sincerely proud to be your Sherif, it wll allow me to focus solely on leading this agency without the distractions of a campaign until the nex: Sheriff takes office in January 2018. | promise to you that | wl continue to work and serve as professionally and conscientiously as possible forthe next two years and provide a smooth transition for the next administration when we get to November, 2018. I realize that I don’t have ta make thie announcement at this time and could wait until the last day in which to file again for office, but felt that giving everyone this information now is open, honest, and transparent, and in the best interest of al. | pray and hope that you respect this decision and | ook forward to many conversations with all of you in the future.
