Goal 1: Improve my ability to teach reading to 1st grade students.

InTASC Standard: 8(h): The teacher uses a variety of instructional strategies to support and
expand learners' communication through speaking, listening, reading, writing, and other modes.
Current Skill Level: Applying
Desired Skill Level: Integrating
Supporting Activities:
Year 1: Read: Richardson, J. (2009). The next step in guided reading: Focused assessments and
targeted lessons for helping every student become a better reader. Scholastic Incorporated.
Year 2: Meet biweekly with other 1st grade teachers to exchange ideas and strategies for
teaching reading.
Year 3: Take a course or workshop on Running Records and Miscue Analysis.
Criteria for Success: Yearly improvement in my students' reading scores as measured by an
informal reading inventory such as the NSGRA.
Goal 2: Improve my ability to teach writing to 1st grade students.

knowledge in meaningful ways.

Supporting Activities:
Year 1:Read writers workshop by Lucy Caulkins and implement the program.
Year 2: Meet monthly with other 1st grade teachers to exchange ideas and strategies for
teaching reading.
Year 3: Assist a conference with the National Writing Project or any other institution that has as
strength teaching writing and literacy.
Criteria for Success:Yearly students should demonstrate through their writing scores an
improvement, this can be measure by their quarterly writing assessments.

Goal 3: Integrate better the Spanish component into every lesson

Standard #2: Learning Differences The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and
diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each
learner to meet high standards.
2(e) The teacher incorporates tools of language development into planning and
instruction, including strategies for making content accessible to English language
learners and for evaluating and supporting their development of English proficiency.
( instead of ELL it would be for SLL)
Current Skill Level: Between applying and integrating

Supporting Activities:
Year 1: Meet with other Dual Language Team least 3 times during the year to get new ideas
Year 2: Attend annual Language acquisition Symposium
Year 3: Become fully certify
Criteria for Success:Yearly improvement in my students' in Spanish reading and
comprehension by an informal reading inventory EDL-2 and Writing samples in spanish of my
students.
Goal 4: Improve ability to teach mathematics

Supporting Activities:
Year 1: Find a webinar or class relevant to improving teaching math skills.
Year 2: Find new ways to make math relevant to childrens life and by using STEM projects.
Year 3: Attend one of the Mathematic in Leadership Program summer institute or classes.
Criteria for Success: Yearly improvement of students understanding of math principles for a
1st grader. Measured by and informal inventory of math skills and their individual grades most
of them should be meeting or exceed expectations.

Goal 5: Incorporation of STEM activities

and performances.
8(f) The teacher engages all learners in developing higher order questioning skills and
metacognitive processes.
8(g) The teacher engages learners in using a range of learning skills and technology tools
to access, interpret, evaluate, and apply information.

Supporting Activities:
Year 1: Webinar: STEM in the Primary Classroom or Integrating STEM Learning
Year 2: Educate my self more on what entails introducing a STEM into an elementary
classroom.
Year 3: Make contact with teachers who have done STEM integration to share ideas.
Criteria for Success:Having completed at least one STEM project per semester to gradually
increase to one per quarter.
Goal 6: Better assessments.
InTASC Standard: Standard #6: Assessment The teacher understands and uses multiple
methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and
to guide the teachers and learners decision making.

Desired Skill Level: Integrating
Supporting Activities:
Year 1: A course on how to better understand data literacy to better support planning
Year 2: Discuss with my team what assessments she does, pre assessments, formative and
summative.
Year 3: Discuss with Curriculum coordinator how to better my assessments, including pre assessments.
Criteria for Success: Develop and implement pre assessments for most of my lessons to see
the growth in my students when giving the summative assessment.
