Supporting Activities:
Year 1: Read: Richardson, J. (2009). The next step in guided reading: Focused assessments and
targeted lessons for helping every student become a better reader. Scholastic Incorporated.
Year 2: Meet biweekly with other 1st grade teachers to exchange ideas and strategies for
teaching reading.
Year 3: Take a course or workshop on Running Records and Miscue Analysis.
Criteria for Success: Yearly improvement in my students' reading scores as measured by an
informal reading inventory such as the NSGRA.
Goal 2: Improve my ability to teach writing to 1st grade students.

develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply
knowledge in meaningful ways.

Supporting Activities:
Year 1:Read writers workshop by Lucy Caulkins and implement the program.
Year 2: Meet monthly with other 1st grade teachers to exchange ideas and strategies for
teaching reading.
Year 3: Assist a conference with the National Writing Project or any other institution that has as
strength teaching writing and literacy.
Criteria for Success:Yearly students should demonstrate through their writing scores an
improvement, this can be measure by their quarterly writing assessments.
