THE IMPORTANCE OF VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTATION IN THE STUDY AND

DEVELOPMENT OF MECHATRONIC SYSTEMS.
Mechatronics Engineering is multidiscipline, and as any technology advances, the
subfields of engineering multiply and adapt, thats why Mechatronics take their part
aiming to design a process that unifies these subfields. Mechatronics is
responsible for creating devices and systems that make efficient industrial
manufacturing and create machines to facilitate certain tasks to make them
automatic.
In the classical industrial systems, a gamma of instruments such as sensors,
tranducers measuring physical variables that were shown on the front panels of
these instruments is used, they were presented in its dials and screens.
Subsequently, instrumentation has evolved and the value of the physical variable
became into an electrical signal which may be interpreted in various interfaces.
Traditional instrumentation has the disadvantage of not being or have wireless
communication with computer equipment.
Currently, virtual instrumentation has won the field measurements because their
systems have high flexibility, good reconfiguration and low cost of installation and
maintenance. The constant creation of software and communication technologies
makes virtual instrumentation systems have a wider range of possibilities gamma.
As students of Mechatronics Engineering of UPIITA, virtual instrumentation offers
tools for creating our projects in work platforms that provide many applications.
Virtual instrumentation make lowers costs of prototyping and modeling of systems
and devices, also is easier to use tan others instruments. In addition, virtual
instrumentation instructs us in the practice of measurements that closely resemble
reality, in the student area the application of virtual instrumentation is not seized
100%, is in the industry and professional practices where full advantage is taken
out its versatility.

Virtual instrumentation has made remarkable improvements in various disciplines

such as:

Energy efficiency and sustainable systems

Control and process automation
Artificial intelligence and neural networks
Renewable energy and environmental systems
Nuclear energy systems
Intelligent manufacturing
Wireless technologies
Medical applications

In the mechatronics, it has been helpful because it provides multiple tools for
measuring physical variables and facilitates the processing and signal processing
to be displayed on various interfaces, as well as being wired or wirelessly
transmitted.
In conclusion, virtual instrumentation provides Mechatronics Engineering countless
tools for developing systems and prototypes which are much cheaper, flexible,
easy to reprogram and are very easy to use and learn by technical managers, no
doubt, virtual instrumentation will continue to grow as do the measurement and
communication technologies , as well as creating software.
