Assalamualaikum, and a very good morning to our respected lecturer and fellow friends.

Today I would like to talk to you and to tell you on the topic of road accidents in Malaysia. It is
often said that Malaysians are bad drivers. Statistics are now proving it to be true. The world
health ranking 2011 has ranked Malaysia at number 20 in its list of countries with the most
deaths caused by road accident. So I have done some research regards to this topic. And today I
would like to prove to you that road accidents in Malaysia is getting more and more serious and I
will explain the causes that contribute to this problem.
By looking at this pie chart right over here, this pie chart represents the percentage of
death by road user category according to the statistical report of road accident in Malaysia by
Royal Malaysia Police. Now as you can see, when it comes to accidents, motorcyclists are the
most at risk, making up an average of 60% fatality on the road followed by the cars occupants
which is about 28%. This is due to currently, the number of cars and motorcycle is about 50-50.
We consider that, it is the worst scenario because of the high interaction between these two
vehicles. Additionally, there is limited engineering space to improve safety on motorcycle and so
we must rely heavily on helmets. It also shows that 9% is contributed by pedestrian and only 3%
for the heavy vehicles. Therefore, its proven that how serious of road accident can be and it can
affect many innocent lives die or injuring-suffered.
Next we are moving to the causes of road accident. This is the MIROS stand
for the Malaysia Institute of Road Safety , crash investigation annual Statistical
report on 2007 until 2012. From this table its about 30% caused by speeding.
Speeding is meant by driving faster than the allowed speed limit. When the driver is
speeding, they risk their life because they cannot alert about what condition they
will face. In addition, a vehicle moving on high speed will have greater impact

during crash and hence will cause more injury or death. Moreover, 25% is caused by
fatigue. It can cause serious multi car crashes, particularly when drivers fall asleep
and cross the center line into oncoming traffic. The highest percentage for the road
accident by 70% is caused by accident involved with large vehicles. This is due to
the combination of traffic composition. There is no separation between the traffic
compositions as most of traffic in Malaysia is a combination of small, medium and
heavy vehicle that shares the same road every day. The consequence from this
cause is it might harm the safety of vehicle users. Last but not least is the road
conditions and infrastructure which only contributed to 10%. Usually, the road will
become dangerous in rainy day. It will make the road becomes more slippery for the
vehicles to handle. Besides, many potholes could endanger the road users. It is
because deep holes can make them cannot control their vehicles and will cause the
accident.
For the conclusion, road accident must be taken as a serious problem and we
as the road users cannot take this problem for granted. I suggest that the
government must enforce the law regarding the road safety towards the road users
who broke the law to solve the problem of road accidents. The people also need to
concern about their safety while driving and follow the rules while they are on the
road to make sure these bloody tragedies are not happened in our nation.
