Biography of Al-Jahiz

Abu Uthman Amr Ibn Bahr al-Kinani alFuqaimi al-Basri, better known by the name
of Al-Jahiz, born in 781 in Basra, Iraq when
the Abbasid caliph in power in Baghdad. He is
one of the Islamic scientists about scientific
and complex subject.

One of the works of Al-Jahiz most phenomenal is the Book of Animals.
Book of Animals is an encyclopedia of zoology consists of seven volumes.
This book discusses more than 350 kinds of animals, the germ, theory of
evolution, adaptation and animal psychology and contains over 30
illustrations in a small size. This book is also considered as the largest and
most important works, which have been donated by Al-Jahiz for human
civilization.
Al-Jahiz has written more than 200 books, but only 30 books that can
be saved, including 87 sheets Book of Animals (roughly one-third of the text
is written al-Jahiz) and is now housed in the Library Ambrosiana, Milan, Italy.
Then at 869, Al-Jahiz died in Basra. The cause of death is uncertain.
The first, it was an accident, in which he was struck by a pile of books in his
personal library and say that because he is ill and died in the month of
Muharram.
