Explore transport options

Unit Descriptor

This unit describes skills and knowledge required by learners

of English as an additional language to identify requirements
for using various local transport options.
The ISLPR (International Second Language Proficiency
Ratings) descriptors for Listening, Speaking, Reading and
Writing. They contribute directly to the achievement of
ISLPR Listening 2, Speaking 2, and Reading 2.
and
the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). They
contribute directly to the achievement of ACSF indicators
of competence for Oral Communication and Reading
competence at Level 2.

This unit contains employability skills.

Application of the Unit

This unit applies to learners wishing to develop their English

language skills and knowledge to access information on basic
requirements for a range of transport options.

Required Knowledge and Skills

This describes the essential skills and knowledge and their level required for this unit.

Required linguistic knowledge and skills :

vocabulary and expressions related to using transport, transport safety and regulations
spoken and written language and instructions related to using various modes of transport
sentence structures for simple, compound and complex sentences
some modals and modal forms (positive and negative), e.g. should, would, could, might,
need to
paralinguistic features to support understanding and communication
use mostly intelligible pronunciation with adequate stress and intonation characterised by
hesitation and circumlocution
Required sociolinguistic and cultural knowledge
some colloquial language
