WIDA Standard (Applies to all): Standard 4: The Language of Science
Purpose (Applies to all): To access students reading skills as it relates to the language of
science.
VA SOL Standard: 1.5: The student will investigate and understand that animals,
including humans, have basic needs and certain distinguishing characteristics.
Objective: Students will recognize a core of words and interpret word order patterns and
their significance.
Directions: Read the word, point to the picture of the word. (1 point per question, 10
points total)
Example: The teacher will model an example beforehand.
