4 The Last Days of Jesus Life

What happened?

The Last Supper

The evening before he died Jesus had a meal


with his disciples. This is called the Last
Supper...
He gave them bread to eat and wine to
drink, saying they were his body and
blood. The represented his sacrifice.
Jesus also told them that one of them would
betray him.
Jesus and his disciples went to spend the
night in the garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus prayed to God take this cup away
from me.
Judas brought the soldiers and showed them
who Jesus was by kissing him on the cheek.
Jesus was taken to the Jewish High Council
(Sanhedrin). They found him guilty of
blasphemy for claiming to be the Son of
God. They wanted to sentence him to death.
They took him to the Roman governor,
Pontius Pilate who gave the people the
choice between freeing Barabbas a murderer
and Jesus. They chose Barabbas.

The crucifixion
Good Friday

After being whipped and humiliated Jesus


was nailed to a cross between two criminals
and left to die.
When he died the sky went dark and the
curtain in the temple was torn in two.
Christians remember the crucifixion at Easter
on Good Friday.

After Jesus rose from the dead, he spent


time teaching his disciples. He promised
them the Holy Spirit would come into the
world and help them spread the word of
God.
Jesus was then taken up into heaven.

This is called the ascension and is


remembered on Ascension Sunday through
worship, hymn-singing and prayers.

Christians remember the Last Supper every time they take
Communion/celebrate Eucharist.
Jesus fear in the garden reminds Christians that Jesus was human.

Christians believe Jesus death was a sacrifice.


They believe his death brings forgiveness from sins.
This restores the loving relationship between God and humankind.
For Christians this shows that Jesus really was God and could
overcome death.
They remember the resurrection on Easter Sunday, which is a
joyful celebration
