Semester long project proposal
As a group, we decided to do our research on abortion laws in the United States as a
whole and in the individual States. It will discuss how abortion laws affect women, how the laws
differ from State to State, and comparing US laws on abortion to other countries along with how
political leaders stand with abortion. The project will include a PowerPoint presentation that
includes videos from the 2016 Presidential Election, and current events surrounding abortion.
A majority of the project will require the use of a computer. A computer gives us access
to pictures, videos, articles, and other research links on the internet. Well have access to abortion
related news and laws from decades ago to two hours ago; thus allowing for extensive research
to be done. As added research we will also talk to our grandparents about how abortion was
looked at during that time, we will do interviews to get the information we need to further our
research of the topic.
The proposed plan is appropriate for the topic weve chosen because to look at abortion
laws today, we have to see how theyve progressed from the past. Although, by the time the
project is presented, itll be too late to vote in the current election; but that doesnt mean abortion
wont be a controversial issue in the future. Abortion will always be there, whether its pro-life or
pro-choice. Because of that, we feel the topic should be talked about in great lengths to our
classmates.

With all three of us having busy schedules, we all have decided to just do separate
research and then collectively work on the PowerPoint. By using a shared Google Document,
well be able to share our research information without needing to meet up. The use of google
docs is really helpful because if one person is having writers block, another team member can
finish off whatever they were trying to say in their paragraph. All in all, we plan on doing a fair
amount of research each, and then meeting up every week to work on the slide show.
Our timeline for the project is a lot of research plus our weekly meetups to work on the
presentation. We will meet up once a week and collaborate on ideas and research that we have
individually found, however if one of cannot make it to our weekly meetings we will use three
way phone calls and write our ideas out on a google doc. On Tuesday September 27th we will
meet on the phone or at the library to prepare and discuss our preview for our class. As we get
our research together we will start our introduction slides on our powerpoint and add to it as we
go on. Well continue that pattern until weve gotten enough research to where we can sit down
and hopefully have the project done by October 28th. Between October 28th and November 30th
we will review and practice presenting our project.
The presentation will not be opinionated, so much as it will focus on the two sides of
abortion and the laws that coincide. The result of the project will be to open people's minds to a
major issue in politics today, and share information so people can form an opinion if they have
not yet already. Hopefully, theyll be able to see both sides of the debated issue, and practical
long term solutions.

Abortion Laws. The Supreme Court's decision in the 1972 case of Roe v. Wade was -- and is
still -- the most important decision affecting abortion in the United States. Roe made it possible
for women to terminate their pregnancies for virtually any reason within certain gestational time
limits. -- http://family.findlaw.com/reproductive-rights/abortion-laws.html
