ABSTRACT
This project aimed to develop a wireless system to detect and allow only the
authorized persons. The system was based on Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) technology and consists of a passive RFID tag. The passive micro
transponder tag collects power from the 125 KHz magnetic field generated by the
base station, gathers information about the Tag ID and sends this information to the
base station. The base station receives, decodes and checks the information
available in its Database and Manchester code was used to send those information.
The system performed as desired with a 10cm diameter antenna attached to the
transponder. The Base Station is built by using the Popular 8051 family
Microcontroller. It gets the tag ID and if the tag ID is stored in its memory then the
microcontroller will allow the person inside.
RFID Reader Module, are also called as interrogators. They convert radio waves
returned from the RFID tag into a form that can be passed on to Controllers, which
can make use of it. RFID tags and readers have to be tuned to the same frequency
in order to communicate. RFID systems use many different frequencies, but the
most common and widely used Reader frequency is 125 KHz.

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
1.1 General
Wastage of electricity is one of the main problems which we are facing now a days.
In our home, school, colleges or industry we see that fan lights are kept on even if
there is no one in the room or area / passage. This happens due to negligence or
because we forgot to turn lights off or when we are in hurry. To avoid all such
situations we have designed this project called Energy Saver and Security
system with visitor counter.
1.2 Overview of security system using RFID
This project has three modules, first one is known as Digital Visitor counter
Second module is known as Automatic room light controller and the third
module is the implementation of security system using RFID card. Main concept
behind this project is known as Visitor counter which measures the number of
persons entering in any room like seminar hall, conference room, classroom. This
function is implemented using a pair of Infrared sensors. LCD display placed
outside the room displays this value of person count. This person count will be
incremented if somebody enters inside the room and at that time lights are turned
on. And in reverse way, person count will be decremented if somebody leaves the
room. When number of persons inside the room is zero, lights inside the room are
turned off using a relay interface. In this way Relay does the operation of
Automatic room light controller. Since this project uses 2 infrared sensors, it can
be used as Bidirectional person counter as well.
