Inspection to check Pipe to Elbows

Alignment

Use a pipe jack or working on a flat

surface

Put the spirit level on top of the pipe and

on the Elbow surface in vertically
position then adjust their position until
the bubble of level in the middle

27

Inspection - PipE TO elbow

Make reference line by using chalk line

and make sure it is parallel with the pipe
center line

Make sure the distance between the

reference line and the pipe center line at
both end of pipe location are the same

Then measure the distance between two

sides of the Elbow and reference line and
ensure their alignment
Email : batamtraining@gmail.com

website : www.batamtraining.com

28

Inspection -Flange-PipE-flange

Determine the distance from the end

of the pipe to a specific reference point
by using try square and ruler then
marked the point.
(E.g.: the reference distance is 100mm)

Do the same thing at the other end of

pipe location

Through the two points then

pulled the roll meter to measure
the length of the pipe and plus
two times the reference distance
(E.g.: plus 2x100 mm)

website : www.batamtraining.com

29

PipE-elbow-pipE
Pipe-Elbow-Pipe Alignment Measurment

Use a pipe jack or working on the flat surface

Place the spirit level on the pipe and adjust

their level

Then place the spirit level on the Flange

through the two pins, ensure their level
position

Email : batamtraining@gmail.com

website : www.batamtraining.com

30

Inspection -PipE-elbow-pipE

Determine the distance from the

midpoint of welded joints to a certain
reference point by using roll meter and
marked the point
(E.g. the reference distance of 1 meter
from the midpoint of welded joints)

Do the same thing at the other end of

pipe

Through the two points then pulled the

roll meter to measure the actual length
of the hypotenuse

Compare the actual results with

Pythagoras formula
C
B

C = ( A2 + B2)

31

Inspection - PipE TO flange

Pipe -Flange Alignment Measurement

Use a pipe jack or working on the flat

surface

Place the spirit level on the pipes and adjust

their level

Then place the spirit level on the Flange

through the two pins, ensure their level
position

After their position

are level, determine
the midpoint of the
flange through the
meeting points of
contact line between
two holes flange

website : www.batamtraining.com

32

Inspection-Pipe to flange
Pipe Centre Line in (00) positions

Determine the center line in flat

pipe position (00) by using KURVO-MARK in a level condition, make
the device line position and
marked the points

Then place the device in reverse

position with the same line
location and marked the points

Do the same things at the other

end of pipe connection

Email : batamtraining@gmail.com

website : www.batamtraining.com

33

Inspection-Pipe to flange

Make a straight line that passes

through the midpoint of the two
points marking of Kurv-O-Mark that
indicating the pipe centre line

34

Inspection - Pipe to flange

Pipe-Flange Alignment at (00) position

Put the try square ruler at (00)

position crossed the midpoint of the
flange and make sure the ruler is
parallel to the center line on the pipe

Then measure the distance between

the center line of pipe with a ruler to
ensure their alignment

Perform measurements at two

locations on both ends of the
connection pipe

Email : batamtraining@gmail.com

website : www.batamtraining.com

35

Inspection - Pipe to flange

Pipe-Flange Alignmet at (900) Positions

Put the try square ruler at (900)

position crossed the midpoint of the
flange and make sure the ruler is
parallel to the center line on the pipe

Then measure the distance between

the center line of pipe with a ruler to
ensure their alignment

Perform
measurements at
two locations on
both ends of the
pipe connections

AFTER FABRICATION
Ensure Pipe End Cover/Preservation during
transportation from shop to lay down area or
Module/ platform installation area.
Check latest rev drawing prior to install the spool
to avoid re work post installation.
Internal cleaning inspection ( Boroscope camera
maybe can use )
Line Walk to check actual installation comparing
with latest Rev drawing/design/3 D model.

41

Anomaly found during site inspection sample :

Purging connection
for hookup spool
was not considered
during design phase
result in:
New fittings
needs to be
ordered (Tee,
Threadolet,
Cap, Plug,
Flange, Blind
Flange)
Rework on

42

Anomaly found during site inspection sample :

The use of non-standard

fitting on purging
connection (nipple
NPTF) during design
stage
Procurement purchased
incorrect material
Nipple NPT (which is a
standard material) and
Plug.
Material received as per
PO Placed
Cap need to be ordered
to replace plug for the
mating of the NPT nipple
All isometric with the
same arrangement
needs to be redlined.

43

Anomaly found during site inspection sample :

As per procedure all

deluge line tapping point
shall be taken from the
top of main header pipe
Some of deluge line
tapping point was taken
from the bottom of
header
pipe;
hence
rework is required to fix
the issue.

Field run tubing, cable tray, and

pipe support needs to consider
spray pattern of deluge nozzle
In ESSO project, it was the pipe
that was modified instead of the
field run
Fortunately all deluge piping
modification was not required to
be re-tested; the modification
was considered as closure weld;
specific method statement and
SQ was raised and approved by
Client

website : www.batamtraining.com

48

Anomaly found during site inspection sample :

Small Bore Bracing was
never modeled on the
PDMS; the requirement
of small bore bracing
was only mentioned on
support standard but
none was noted on
isometric; the detail
drawing for the small
bore bracing was
developed later on the
project and not as per
support standard. It was
approved through SQ
and method statement
was generated for the
welding of bracing to
tested lines.

49

Anomaly found during site inspection sample :

Design of pipe support
hanging on stair member
was rejected by EAPL and
site need to propose new
design sketch and get
approval
from
EAPL
through SQ.
This is last
minute
comment and all module
already shipped to the
BARGE.
Design review before
design drawing issued
need to have final review
from Client .

50

Anomaly found during site inspection sample :

Site need to improve on
comprehension of detail
drawing especially on
pipe
support
detail
drawing to minimize
unnecessary punch list
after line walk or during
re instatement. Do it right
at the first beginning is
really important to avoid
re work and spent MH.
