LETS TALK ABOUT IT AGAIN!

MISSION STATEMENT
We are a team of high school students who aspire to foster an inclusive environment that thrives
off of collaboration, self-expression, and dialogue. We aim to help students navigate the social
and academic pressures of school through the practice of collaboration and reflection.
PROJECT NEED
Because Eagle Rock HS is a very competitive and academically rigorous environment, its
tempting to fall into a bubble of doubt and isolation, especially when expectations, social and
familial obligations, and to-do lists mount in the background. Middle and high school students
find themselves feeling stressed and in turn bottle up the turmoil, often unaware that their peers
are enduring similar struggles. Our team aims to reach out to students of all ages on campus
through interviews and invitations to club workshops. With each workshop, we hope to expand
on self-understanding and self-awareness by providing an outlet for the kaleidoscope of
perspectives that often go unshared, and a route for self-expression to manifest.
The physical and emotional wellbeing of students is paramount to their success, academic and
otherwise. Our groups focus is to alleviate stress and promote self-expression, thus
empowering students to craft a safer sphere on the individual level as well as holistically.
Anyone combatting the trials of navigating trauma, stress, physical health, or culture can find the
comfort of conversation and community here.
RESEARCH
Yvonne Powell recognized the need for an environment that allows conversation for topics like
sexual assault, proving that the problem we want to solve in our community is also present in
different parts of the world.

There are many factors that come into play when making and managing a healthy space for
students. Some factors are: passion, safe beliefs, and excitement.

Uses stats, consider socio-economic influence:

Socio-economic factors can interfere with a students health and wellbeing and may lead them
to not having many resources available to them. Valuable relationships need to be made in
order to provide a safe school communities.

By no means what should be C+P onto the website in the above pt. Well be able to cite the
stats that we use (say, if we create a pie chart based on facts collected in these/any other
sources and then cite them). For the website, I figure hotlines could also be provided as
resources. Could be coupled with the mission statement in an elaboration below. Good segway
into conversations during interviews.
.
PROJECTED TIMELINE
HOW: In conjunction with the student body, during meetings which include
- WORKSHOPS (SPEAKERS INVITED FOLLOWED BY CONVERSATION)
- OUTREACH EVENTS (INTERVIEWS+MERCH DISTRIBUTION+PLEDGES)
- MOVIE SHOWINGS (IN COLLAB W CLUBS LIKE FEMINIST CL, SCO ETC..)
- ZINE CONSTRUCTION & DISTRIBUTION (BASED ON MONTHLY THEMES)
WHERE/WHEN: On school campus, during lunch (but also nutrition for beginning-of-the-month
outreach events) and after school (for screenings)
Advertisement done on a monthly basis, in the first week. Poster campaigns done partly through
positively motivated messages on banners, student designed and distributed stickers and flyers
(and the sale of patches & pins). Related to social media, accounts will be held on Instagram,
Tumblr, and Spotify. Instagram and Tumblr will serve to involve students unable to attend
meetings in the clubs mission as well as establish an image and catalog progression related to
the theme. The Spotify account tracks member-created playlists based on that months theme
and serves to color zine-construction meetings with appropriately coordinated background
tunes.
ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES
In the short term, wed like to show the student body that there are people on campus who are
working to craft a safer environment to listen and be heard with sincerity. We want to spark
questions in our interviews that remind students of their position in society and their power to
exercise their voice.

We want to be the 24/7 lighthouse on campus, the space where creatives and the curious go for
inspiration, where opinions are challenged with critical questions, where silent-types exercise
criticisms and respond through self-expression, where the vocal challenge themselves to act,
and where fluidity exists in recognizing that were all a little bit of each. A leap of faith in oneself
amongst his/her peers goes a long way, further than the initially calculated distance.
-

Allows for an on-campus outlet; stress relief leads to better balanced students, which in
turn allows for a clear mind approaching academics
Communication between female and male students of different grades, incidentally
provides for natural mentor-motivated friendships and bonds
Not only reminds students of the weight of their voice, but of the power that it holds in
being able to influence and inspire action
Encourages unapologetic vulnerability, cultivates a space where this may be done
without the fear of feeling ostracized or disvalued

DATA COLLECTION
An initial survey can be done to ask students what theyd like to talk about, in terms of what they
currently feel that they dont feel welcome/comfortable sharing and why. These stats can be
posted on the social media pages and shared with interviewees for reflection. From here, the
club may better serve student interest and need. Interviews done as the board reaches out to
the school community would characterize a myriad of distinct voices and provide evidence of a
generation that tackles the stereotype of apathy with conviction.
