RATIONALE for
the Learning
Plan

Students will begin this lesson having minimal prior knowledge

on rotation. The students will recognize what rotation is when
an example is given. The students will begin to learn about the
direction in which planets rotate and what they rotate around.
The lesson below allows students to grasp this concept while
implementing PA standards.

Transition
At the conclusion of the clock movement activity,
students will be asked to return to their seats. Once
students are sitting the instructor will ask them to rotate
clockwise to the seat by them. A large orange ball will be
in the middle of their desk formation to represent the
sun.

PreAssessment of Students
During a teacher initiated group discussion students will
demonstrate any prior knowledge they have on rotation.
Modeling of the Concept
Instructor will use promethium board to draw and outline
a model of the planets in the solar system around the
sun.
Guiding the Practice
Teacher will ask students to come up to the board and
draw arrows in the direction planets rotate.
Teacher will ask students follow up questions such as
What is that direction called?
Providing the Independent Practice
Students will draw a picture of planets rotating around
the sun. Students will then produce 3-5 sentences on
what is happening in the picture that they drew.
Transition
Before students transition from this subject to another,
instructor will ask students what was talked about in

science today.
