One look and I remember the topic +

main points + what I liked/disliked

Dual-coding Theory

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual-coding_theory - from Alan

Paivio (1971)

Main points:

visual and verbal information are processed along distinct

channels

mental images help learning

both visual and verbal codes can be used when recalling

information

How to sketchnote

Why is it so popular?

Hypothesis #1:
In the Agile world, visualizing ideas is becoming more
and more popular in general
There's value in quick learning, quick recalling, quick
explaining
Sketchnotes are like mindmaps

Hypothesis #2:
In the "Age of Distraction" and social media, it's
good to:
- stay focused and extract key ideas
- share your original ideas/notes and improve your
"virtual persona"

Hypothesis #3:
A lot of IT companies are looking for creativity when
hiring new people
!

Sketchnotes stand as proof that we are not afraid to

be wrong and we can come up with original materials
and ideas

Going back to:

BUT...
I CAN'T DRAW!

CHILDREN NEVER SAY

THEY CAN'T DRAW

The right question is not

"How creative are you?
!

but
!

"How are you creative?"
