BIPA PROGRAM

(INDONESIAN FOR NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS PROGRAM)


FACULTY OF HUMANITIES, UNIVERSITY OF INDONESIA

I. OBJECTIVES
Indonesian for Non-native Speakers Program (BIPA Program) is
designed to train international students to actively communicate in both
written and spoken Indonesia. In order to achieve these objectives, BIPA
provides three levels of study with individual curriculum and goals.

II. LEVEL
A. Elementary Level (BIPA 1)
The elementary level aims at giving basic competence to use Bahasa
Indonesia with an emphasis on conversational skills, both formal and
informal. Cultural awareness also be given to enhance the communication
skills.
B. Intermediate Level (BIPA 2)
At the intermediate level, participants learn to employ different styles
of spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia.
C. Advanced Level (BIPA 3)
At this level, participants learn to participate in discussion, write essay
in Indonesian, and study topics related to Indonesian society and culture (e.g.
history, religion, tradition, etc).

III. MATERIALS
The language skills taught cover speaking, reading, listening, writing,
vocabulary building, and grammar using BIPAs unique materials.

IV. PROGRAMES AND LENGTH OF STUDY


Every year, BIPA Program is divided into two programs, which are:

A. Regular Program (BIPA Regular)


The Regular Program takes four months, and held from January to May
and August to December every year. Classes are scheduled five days a week:
Monday to Friday, from 9.00 12.30 WIB. In BIPA 2, participants will have an
opportunity to have discussion with public.
In BIPA 3 participants may take one or two of the following courses
provided that there are minimums of 5 participants in one class. The courses
are:

Jakarta Dialect

Indonesian Culture and Society

Issues in Indonesian Law, Politics, and Economy.

B. Inter - semester Program (BIPA PAS)


The inter-semester Program runs from May to July every year. Classes are
scheduled five days a week, Monday to Friday from 08.30 13.00 WIB.
Participants take the same curriculum and materials as those in Regular
Program. The inter-semester Program is an intensive Program, so the
forthcoming participants must at least master Basic Bahasa Indonesia for
daily use.

SPECIAL PROGRAM
Apart from Regular and Inter-Semester Program. BIPA also offers Special
Program which is tailored to meet the specific needs and goals of an
individual or groups.
Among the service are report writing, reading skills, and business
communication.

V. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Additionally, BIPA provides extracurricular activities such as gamelan music,
batik panting, Arumba, traditional dances, and singing. Exciting short visits to
local areas are also arranged to familiarize participants with daily life of
Indonesian Society. These activities are arranged and provided by the Faculty
of Humanities University of Indonesia.

VI. ADMISSION PROCEDURES


A. Basic Requirement for Applicant
To be qualified to attend BIPA Program, the applicant must graduate from
High School level or equivalent, shown by their Diploma.
B. Application Procedures:
1. International Students Living Abroad
To study at BIPA Program, the applicant needs a Student VISA (6
MONTH or 1 YEAR)
A. STUDENT VISA FOR 6 MONTH
This visa is given to the Applicant who is willing to learn at BIPA
Program for 1 semesters.
B. STUDENT VISA FOR 1 YEAR
This visa is given to the Applicant who is willing to learn at BIPA
Program for 2-3 semesters (1 year).
To apply for student visa, the Applicant must send these following
documents to BIPA Office via post or email four (4) months before the
program started:
Document needed to apply student visa:
1. Application letter
2. Applicants Curriculum Vitae (CV)
3. Photocopy color of the Applicants Diploma, Transcript, and Academic
Certificate
4. Photocopy color whole page of Applicants valid Passport (minimum
valid date 18 months when the Applicant is applying for Student Visa)
5. One recent passport photograph (3x4 cm), 3 recent photograph (4x6
cm)
6. Statement from Hospital or physician stating that the Applicant is
physically and mentally healthy

7. A letter from Indonesian Embassy in Applicants country or from


Applicants Embassy in Indonesia stating the Applicants nationality and
willingness to learn at BIPA Program, University of Indonesia.
8. A letter from the Applicants sponsor or guarantor which stated their
responsibilities to finance all the Applicants expenses while studying at
BIPA Program.
9. A letter which stated the Applicants willingness to obey the Indonesian
rules.
10. A letter which stated the Applicants willingness to obey the regulation
in BIPA Program.
BIPA Office will forward the application to the Indonesian Ministry
of Education. After the Ministry of Education issue a Study Permit Letter
BIPA Office will process telex in the Directorate General of Immigration.
With the study permit and telex letter, the Applicant can apply the Student
Visa at the Indonesian Embassy.
BIPA Office can cancel the application if the Applicant fails to get study
permit letter from the Indonesian Ministry of Education.
Within 7 days of Applicants arrival in Indonesia, the Applicant must
report to BIPA office. BIPA Office will issue a recommendation letter for the
Applicant to apply
1. KITAS & MERP - Process in IMMIGRATION OFFICE
2. STM - process in POLICE OFFICE
3. SKPPS and SKTT process in MAYOR OFFICE
NOTES:
For the student who will not continue to the next program or have graduated
BIPA 3, the student must return the KITAS and SKPPS / SKTT:

KITAS returned to the Immigration Office for the EPO (Exit Permit
Only)

SKPPS / SKTT returned to the Mayor's Office

2. International Students Living in Indonesia


KITAS holder or Visit Visa holder can apply directly to BIPA Program by
bringing a:
1. Applicants Form
2. Photocopy color of the Applicants Diploma, Transcript, and
Academic Certificate
3. Photocopy color passport and KITAS
4. One resent Photograph (3x4)

Note: Registration is closed when all available classes are full.
Tuition fee are non-refundable under any circumstances. Those who
have paid and given bank receipt to BIPA office on the determined
date will be registered as BIPA students.
