Workshop 5. M1951
Procedure
Generate the DOE in Minitab using Surface design.
Workshop 5. M1951
Using only one centre value and alpha will keep the default value assigned by Minitab.
Workshop 5. M1951
Inserting the results into the DOE run for statistical analysis.
Workshop 5. M1951
Initial Results:
Response Surface Regression: RESPONSE versus Dimension A , Dimension B , Dimension C
Workshop 5. M1951
Workshop 5. M1951
Identification of non-influential parameters for optimization, P-values greater than 0.05 will be
disregarded one by one beginning with greatest value. (Variables sorted shown).
Workshop 5. M1951
After this initial removal of AF term, the manual optimization process was performed on the
following order:
FF, CF, BF, AA, BE, EE, CC, F, EF, DF, CE, DE, AE, BC
The final model obtained after the optimization process and the R values are shown below:
Workshop 5. M1951
The version 17 of MInitab software offers the functionality to optimize the process automatically,
here is shown how using this option yields the same result as with the manual process.
Selecting the option Setepwise we can choose the desired optimization tool, in this case, backward
elimination.
Workshop 5. M1951
It is necessary to define the alpha parameter, to be used for the Backward elimination process. In
this case alpha corresponds to the P-value, and any term greater than 0.05 needs to be discarded.
The results of the automated process are the same as with the manual one (View page 7), thus, the
manual process has been executed successfully.
