Respect the authors opinion while reading

Be open to what the author has to say even though you may not
necessarily agree with it
Listening to others arguments could help you better understand
You will want to read with an eye toward the claims the writers make, claims
that they are making with respect to you, in the sense that writers want you to
think and feel in a certain way. Pg. 28

Learning to enter previous conversation through

context.

There is more to reading than gathering infromation. This applies to many things,
including essays, articles, and research.
Reading is a conversation.

Reading means making judgements about which of the many voices one encounters
can be brought together into productive conversation. Pg. 29

When discussing what you read you come up with your

own ideas

When discussing another authors work it can inspire to come up with your own
idea to write about.
Discussing what you read can make you change you opinion on a topic or make
you question the way you thought about something.

You will want to read with an eye toward identifying an issue, the situation that calls
for some response in writing, and framing a question. Pg. 30.

On pg 28 the essay The Subject Is Research it states that before we decide to

write about any topic we must first do our research or homework on it.
The essay follows to say that to show our own understanding of the subject we
begin to raise our own questions and create something to be able to provoke
thoughts in others. It says that when we try to answer these questions our answers
should not be prepackaged answers.

On pg 30 in Entering The Conversation Greene says that in writing a good

researched argument is done when we write about topics that everyone is talking
about and that should not be right. The argument does not necessarily have to be
something audience has been talking about . As writers it is our job to explore
things that have not been looked through and although it is possible to do so in
things people do want to talk about. We should have the ability to write a good
essay on things that concern us as the writer. In doing so we can create a topic
that can call attention to our audience.

Having an open mind while reading in college will help

you to understand what you are reading better and will
help you form a better opinion as well.
In conclusion Greene states that you will have to read with an open
mind and respect the opinions of others as well as adding your own
opinions to the argument. Do not be afraid to disagree with the
opinion of the writer because, in most cases, people will agree with
what you are saying as well.
